Changes...
I figured I would kick this off with a bang. I haven't noticed this myself yet but I have a feeling that it is coming. I have read a lot of John's posts relating to women and then changes people have shown to him such as giving him more attention and things. As a guy how do you deal with all the extra attention? How do you prevent yourself from getting absorbed in all that extra attention that we are not used to. As we normally shy in the corner (or at least I did) and try to keep OUT of the center of attention? I guess I am just trying to prepare myself for what is coming. Post away.

Changes
They do occur, but I'm still the same person that I was before I lost the weight.
So I guess I'm oblivious to being hit on, unles they make it totally clear.

I'm married, so it doesn't matter...
BUT, The one lady at work who compliments me in a somewhat seductive manner and winks is gross. I can't stand her because she yaps, yaps, yaps all the time and has severe halitosis.
I used to be the best friend but never the serious boyfriend and that probably instilled a little shyness, but I'm over that now. As a matter of fact, within reason, if and when flirtatious things come up, I don't think it would unnerve me. As days go by, I'm already feeling more and more confident. (Which has already gotten me in trouble a couple of times when I get pissed off because I'm not taking people's crap anymore.)
I wouldn't worry about getting absorbed in all this new attention. I would enjoy it. It's high time we got some attention. Don't you think?

I have seen a little bit of both
I have seen a little bit of both. It is interesting. Some people are very flirtacious, and have made passes etc, but what is strange is that many of the overweight people become very cold to me once they find out I had GB surgery. I have read that it happens, but it was amazing the difference.
Another thing I have noticed is that the general public is SOOOOO much nicer to me now that I have started losing weight. At first I thought it was in my head, but even Dave noticed it. I think it is sad to be honest.
Being a tall man I always seemed to get attention, and honestly I am not shy, but hate the idea that people are staring at me. It just makes me feel funny, but I can honestly say that people "appear" to be looking at me differently.
Well there's my 2 cents.
Jeff

I agree with you Mike. But at the same time it pisses me off of just because we are big people treat us like crap. Now that I am losing weight and starting to like myself I had to girls check me out yesterday while driving home. Granted I it was a good feeling but at the same time it pissed me off because had I been my normal size they wouldn't have given me a second look.

I have only told my family about my surgery.
I just lie to everyone else, though, if anyone asks if I had the surgery, then I will tell them the truth.
I have been working out at this specific gym since October 2006. Many of my fellow gym rats have complimented me on my extreme weight-loss. I guess it's obvious when you change and shower in the men's locker room.
I have always been outgoing, even when I was morbidly obese, so I really haven't changed.
I kinda enjoy the changes that have occurred. The better fitting and more stylish clothes and the increased blood circulation does have its percs!
Mike, I know of an older woman like that too, she's a recent divorcee,so she's driving me crazy.

I would definately enjoy it. It's nice to be looked at differently..boosts your self esteem and what not. I had a "friend" say to one of his buddies the other day...I don't think they knew I was just around the corner. "Boy, Godin would look very pretty if she would just lose weight". At a quick moment I was thinking what makes me not pretty now..why can't we look at other people's personalities than their looks. At the same time I wonder what he will say after my surgery.
I can't wait for people to turn heads towards me...it's been soo long. Take it all in guys while you can!

Jessica I have to agree. Unfortunatlly this work is so hell bent on judging people by its looks. I have never understood why. Then I look at society and the media and the roll that it plays and then i starts to slowly make sense. Maybe the tide will turn someday but I doubt it

I am the same way, for all the reasons listed above I keep my surgery to myself and close friends. When asked about how I lost/keep losing so much I just say "Eat less, Move more".
I am like Mike, married but I still enjoy the attention... usually but I cannot let it go to my head. If you arent in a relationship man... take it in and enjoy it.
But as to why people judge us on looks, IMO think its instinctual. People look at others and "try" to find a health mate. Its the same for all species, after all why do you think Rudolf kept hiding his red nose
The media... dont even get me started on that! And just let me say that yeah Paris Hilton is pretty hot.. but I know hotter women that have less bagage, but well... they dont have the bank account either tho
