Gotta tell you..that wasn't easy, mostly because of the choices available. Seems like most vacation fare at parks tends to be carb and fat heavy. I brought protein drinks, granola bars, and roasted edamame nuts with me while walking around Disney, and when we did stop to eat a hot meal, I just followed the protein first role, chicken, shrimp, etc. Worst thing I did was to order some chicken strips and peel off all the breading. Lots of fruit bowls and salad/vegetables too when available. It wasn't hard for me mentally, just hard because of what was available. I get the feeling they weren't thinking of us WLS folks...
Now, to be honest, I walked a ton and ended up losing no weight. Outside of the parks we went to, I ate too much pasta and pizza, not portion size, just too many meals. But you know, there's always a bright side to things and in my case, I didn't overeat or push my pouch, and I didn't gain any weight, so I think I did pretty well. And as I mentioned in a thread, I lost 10 pounds in the week after. So, I think every once in awhile it's okay to be bad, as long as bad is under control.
I think what I really took away from it is that we as WLS patients need to learn to deal with being in a bubble, now and always. Finding that way to always fit into the our families meals and dealing with situations like vacations and normal restaurant outings that take us out of our comfort zone. I spent conscious time considering this while on vacation, to keep my mind focused. And it helped that my wife is firmly in my corner and is eating with me. It really helps ease the transition.
Hi sweet lady! I see you snuck into my group of groupies when I wasn't looking. *L* Thank you for honoring me with your presence. I'm really not sure about all of you groupies...not quite sure what to make of it all. But thank you for the compliment. I do enjoy sharing and supporting others. It honestly is a dream of mine to work within a bariatric practice one day. So, please know that I never mind questions. I most certainly don't know it all but I'm learning a lot along the way and it is my pleasure to share whatever I know. This is a journey that you can't do alone so welcome to the group.
