Hi neighbor! Yes, I had Dr. George Eid for my surgery....just had surgery at the end of May. My opinion about the classes....they're helpful, but it really doesn't cover enough info IMO. The info we are given on vitamins/supplements is woefully inadequate, and often it's the opposite of the most current research. For example, we were advised to take calcium carbonate. Research shows that gastric bypass patients absorb calcium carbonate much better. Another example, I was advised to take ferrous sulfate iron. Again, we don't absorb it as well, and carbonyl iron is a preferred form.
So, I guess what I'm trying to say is...the classes are helpful and you should do them. But, you need to educate yourself in other ways. I'd start off by buying the book "Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies". (I got mine at Amazon.com, but it's probably available at Barnes & Nobles, etc) It goes over a lot of stuff that you won't learn in the classes.
The best part about the classes? By doing it at Magee, they'll handle all of the stuff for your insurance. That's invaluable.
You'll learn lots of things on this forum. If you see a post by MiladyB (Beth), be sure to read it as she is always posting awesome info. There's usually some good info on the Nutrition board as well.
Best of luck with everything!
