Thank you........ Well Congratulations on starting the process. Ask me everything you want. Im not shy and I wont sugar coat anything ;-) The surgery could have gone smoother. They woke me up from anthesia (sp) too fast so I was in some pain at first.....and then I had an upper and lower GI bleed after I got out of the hospital I was re-admitted. They say only like 5% of people have the complications I did. (go figure) but I survived! I have lost 106lbs total but 82 with surgery in 5 mths and 2 days. I have my good and bad days but regardless the good way out weighs the bad. I would do it again!!!

It is only normal that you are doubting if the surgery is right for you. But, don't give in to the doubt, give up, make an appointment with a bariatric speicalist and talk to them about your fears and desires. It will help in your decision. I have 2 kids too and I want to be around for them and my wife. But, I'm doing it for me and to be healthy. Good luck on your journey.

I started looking into surgery in '06 and I even have the rejection letter from the insurance company, still. That only stopped me for a short time. I really got serious back in Feb. of this yr. I have extremely severe sleep apnea, 90 times an hr that I stopped breathing or had my breathing restricted, which in turn caused my hbp. So, I went to the informational meeting and the material didn't change but the whole process had. My first hurdle was cleared, then 6 months of nutritional meetings, once a month, second hurdle cleared, psych eval, third hurdle and the final hurdle was insurance. It wasn't a problem because of my sleep apnea, hbp and bmi and the finishline is Nov. 30th and a new race begins. I still have thoughts of, "am I making the right choice?" I know I'm making the right choice because I want to lose the cpap and hbp meds.

Well, thanks. I'm very excited indeed. I'll bet you are, too, having made a decision to check out this path. But seriously, I've learned more here that I have with any doctor's visit. (That said, check out anything you learn here with your doc if you aren't sure!)

    Again, welcome!

Have you gone into the Introduce yourself forum? If not I'd suggest you do that asap. Introduce yourself and just give a summary of why your here and what you hope to get from the site. You can pose any question you have, maybe ask recommendation of good doctors in your area; or questions about insurance, basically anything that you need to know. Good luck

Positives for me are: Less chance of complications, No issues with malnutrition which some people do have after surgery, No massive coctail of suppliments for the rest of your life, No dumping which is common with the bypass and finally less time on the operating table. Oh and you can practically eat the same foods post-op. The surgery is a restrictive one as your pouch is made much smaller. The same diet rules post-op applies just like the bypass.

I'd just say to you, be patient and either start a thread of your own to ask any particular questions that you have, people will answer you. This site has been a life saver for me. I struggled at the start but thanks to TT. I feel much more comfortable about everything now. You can read my blog if you have time, it's been a bit a roller coaster ride for me but hey, i'm hanging on in there. Good luck to whatever you decide to do. Good Luck.
