Oh my God Optigirl, I am so sorry for your loss! That is such horrible news. I can't believe you even had time to respond. By all means take time for yourself and loved ones. There are no good words to take the pain away. I just hope all eases soon. God bless. Kerrie

Hi optigirl, I got home yesterday. The night before surgery I had a BG of 47. So I treated it. Some of the frosting was still in my stomach. The MD had to suck it out first. I am still really sore. I took a shower today and have been walking alot. I too was on an insulin drip. I'm not hungry but still have cravings it's challenging. How soon before you felt better? Do you still get hungry/ have cravings? The MD wants me on clear liquids the first week. I'm using 1/2 the insulin and checking often. My BG was 220. The doctors said I'll have to reduce as I lose weight. Have you lost much weight yet? Thanks for the encouragement. You take care as well.

    Hey Mayflora
guess you would have had your surgery by now hope you are doing well.Things went great for me bit of dicomfort but otherwise no trouble.Yes they are guessing with us I was a bit of an experiment. But it has paid off my sugar levels have dropped from double figures to single in normal range.Long time since they could label me normal haha.I was on glucose and insulin infusion pumps in hospital and just worked on sliding scale if went up a bit.Now at home I work on 1 unit insulin for 10 carbs seems to do the trick most of the time but can get bit tricky working out small amounts food. On 1/4 of the insulin I was taking before. It takes a bit of getting use to getting full on some small amount of food but have had no trouble no chucking which is great. So I can say I.m wrapped so far getting more energy each day do a daily walk down my street.Keep in touch and let me know how things are going for you. take each day as it comes take care :]

Optigirl, I am very sorry I did not see this sooner. I am still new at this navigating stuff. How did you make out? What did you do with your diabetes? Any sugar problems after? I so know what you mean being totally frustrated with weight and DM control. Me too. They had me on R500 due to the insulin resistance. R500 just in case you don't know is superconcentrated insulin. I hated having to wait 3 hours for my sugar to come down, if it did. With the Medifast diet they put me on I have lost a total of 27lbs so far. My surgery is on Tues June 2nd. I am glad you contacted me. I don't know about you, but I feel like such a pioneer being a type 1 and having this done. Some of the doctors don't even know how to treat me w/ everything and the DM. God, I really wish I had seen this earlier. It looks as if we are/were a similar weight too. Have you lost much after the surgery? What did your docs do for insulin after the surgery? I hope you get this sooner than I got yours.
