Hey I'm 22 too and seriously thinking about doing this. Have a few appointments in the next few weeks for the psych eval and to talk to my physician about writing me a letter so I'll have everything in place when I finally take the leap. Let's keep in touch, yeah? - Maggie

it will go by fast. I looked into the surgery almost one year ago exactly. after the 6 month diet, then you have to get the approval from the insurance for the nutrition vist and psych evaluation. Then my surgeon required 3 visits with him once a month before scheduing a date. be patient, it will be worth it.

Hi neighbor! Yes, I had Dr. George Eid for my surgery....just had surgery at the end of May. My opinion about the classes....they're helpful, but it really doesn't cover enough info IMO. The info we are given on vitamins/supplements is woefully inadequate, and often it's the opposite of the most current research. For example, we were advised to take calcium carbonate. Research shows that gastric bypass patients absorb calcium carbonate much better. Another example, I was advised to take ferrous sulfate iron. Again, we don't absorb it as well, and carbonyl iron is a preferred form.

So, I guess what I'm trying to say is...the classes are helpful and you should do them. But, you need to educate yourself in other ways. I'd start off by buying the book "Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies". (I got mine at Amazon.com, but it's probably available at Barnes & Nobles, etc) It goes over a lot of stuff that you won't learn in the classes.

The best part about the classes? By doing it at Magee, they'll handle all of the stuff for your insurance. That's invaluable.

You'll learn lots of things on this forum. If you see a post by MiladyB (Beth), be sure to read it as she is always posting awesome info. There's usually some good info on the Nutrition board as well.

    Best of luck with everything!

You're only 22 so you couldn't have gained much - those photos are gorgeous! I've been perusing photo albums to get inspired - I've been approved and have my appt. with the surgeon Oct. 6. These pictures of before and after are amazing! Have you had your surgery yet? I don't want to post any pictures until I have lost some weight - I can't stand to look at them!
