The Hubs and I took some well needed time off together and went to the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, FL. They had a "Free Admission" weekend for residents of Brevard County. Couldn't pass that up! Saved us around $35 or more each on the admission price.
It's only about a 45 min drive from our house. Actually, we can see the Shuttle as it goes up from out front door. It's amazing!
Reborn dolls are vinyl dolls that have had their factory paint removed, till they have no color on them. The molded hairlines are sanded and smoothed (buffed) down. Then the long process of painting many, many layers of a heat set paint. Each layer adding something different. From faint veining to the tiny capillaries on the eyelids. It is an extremely time intensive thing. With each layer being heat set in the oven. It can take several days just to complete the coloring on the doll. Then the doll has "hair" rooted into the head. The hair is actually Angora Mohair. It is the softest feeling and is the most like a babies natural hair. This process is done with a special tool that implants 1-2 follicles at at time. That can take many hours to complete as well. The bodies are weighted with tiny glass bead or plastic pellets to be proport-ionate to the dolls size. The doll is then complete and is now a collectible and is heirloom quality.
