Hi Carl,
Yes...doing well. Have lost 2stone 6pounds so far.
I managed to do the soup and muller diet for a total of 3 weeks 1 day (even took 8 tins of soup into the hospital with me...I was admitted on Wednesday 2nd July, had IVC filter put into my neck on the 3rd and had bypass on the 4th.
I did have a complication though....I was very sick when I came round from the op. It turned out that the stitches at the top of my new pouch was so tight, I couldnt swallow my own saliva!!! So, I vomited day and night for four days in ICU. I must of ruptured my pouch in the first crucial 24hours, which done some damage.
Anyway, Mr Hash said I may need further surgery to un do a stitch, but he wanted to try a GN tube first (gastric nasal tube is a tube that passes through the nose, down the throat and down into the stoma) he put this tube in whilst I was awake...I felt so sick I was glad of it...he immediately drained a lot of fluid out which helped enormously. He told me not to swallow my saliva for a whole night....which I managed to do until 4.30am which left me weak and exhausted....I trust that man with my life, he will be forever a hero of mine.
My full story (blogs) are logged on the Anne Diamond site Buddypower.....same name Cherylharr.....check it out for a laugh.
Best of luck to you anyway.
I lost 1st 5lbs on the soup diet pre op...I managed to stick to it rigidly even though I cooked roast dinners etc for my family....that really tested my nerve....but was too scared my liver would be too large on op day.
Your wife will need support to cope....my husband was beside himself with fear of losing me...due to blood clot history....it is very tough on our partners.
Keep strong and good luck my friend.
Cheryl
