Melanie and Dara: Fun in Vegas After WLS - ThinnerTimes

Melanie and I thought we'd post about our recent ladies weekend in Vegas. We are living proof that life is fun after WLS, even for old married women like us. We shopped til we dropped and walked about 10 miles a day in the process (Caesar's Forum Shops, Venetian shops, etc.). At Caesar's Palace, we partied at a Peter Frampton concert (for those of you over 40). And we laughed our butts off at "Avenue Q," a Tony Award-winning musical playing at The Wynn. We ate well, but within reason. And, of course, we gambled a little.

In the meantime, we had a couple of fun encounters--one of which was with two handsome, VERY friendly Chippendales (see attached photo).

While in Vegas, we also learned that if we still weighed 100+ lbs. more, we would have had an ENTIRELY different trip. This time around, we received lots of special compliments and favors from a variety of men. Believe me, it's something I haven't encountered since I was in my early 20's! But it was really, really nice at 49!

Another thing that really surprised us was that almost everyone in Las Vegas actually LOOKS at the photo on your driver's license. No one ever looks at my picture in San Diego! But, wow, in Vegas, I got four or five comments on my driver's license photo. One really nice comment was from the guy who prepared our rental car agreement at Alamo. He said we looked amazing and he would never have thought it was us. Ahem...he also gave us a free upgrade. Another great compliment came from the guy who checked our luggage at the airport. He bantered with us a few minutes, teasing us about our wild ladies' weekend in Vegas (yeah, right). Then, as we started to leave, he came over to me, put his arm around me, and said, "Please do me a favor. Get another driver's license. You're a very beautiful women and this picture is just not you. You can hear it from your girlfriends, but sometimes you just need to hear it from a man. Get another picture." I thought that was sooooo sweet!

For those of you who are struggling as newly post-op or those of you who are hoping for surgery, please be assured that life can be grand after WLS. We were able to do so much more than we ever would have been able to do 100+ lbs. heavier. We felt like a million bucks and acted like much younger women. And, we felt beautiful and were even treated like beautiful women!

Cindy, you're a beautiful woman...you'd have a great time too. But you should wait until you reach goal...then you'll have a totally UNBELIEVABLE time!

Believe it or not, we didn't get drunk or wake up with strange men in our beds. And we STILL had the time of our lives!

Miss you on here! I think once I hit goal I could go to the dentist and feel unbelieveable!! I can't wait. Would love to finally meet you in person. Robin and I are having a jewelry party this Sat. if you can make it. I don't live as far as my Sister.

I admire your friendship and just love your pictures. You both shine with happiness and I am proud of your success. You both have always been great inspirations to me. Glad that you both enjoyed shopping til you dropped in Vegas.

No strange men in your beds...just the ones holding you in their arms

Vegas is a totally different expereince as a smaller person...you havesooo much more energy to do all the things you want, especailly the endless shopping!

I am so sorry, I have Dale on my mind as I just replied to your post re: Dale.

Besides, how can I think straight after seeing such amazing photos of my teenage hearthrob!!!

I know who you are, of course, that lovely drop dead gorgeous woman, who I always enjoy hanging with, who I need to hang with more often!!

I think the group is over due a social activity!!
