I met a man
I know that this is a little late. While in the hospital I met a lot of interesting people. My wife and I met Anna. She had the surgery. Not sure exactly who my "podmates" were but there were people there who had surgery the day before and the day after. Because I was there longer than I was supposed to be I got to meet a lot of nurses. Most who were the greatest and best nurses a guy could ask for. Well I am getting off track. Irela and I were walking around the halls. When this guy walked up to me and said "you had GBS didnt you?" I replied yes. He said I want you to know that that surgery saved my life. Me in pain and not really in a talkative mood. I told him yes I have heard that a lot and my wife is living proof. He said you dont understand I had my first GBS "40 years ago" What? Irela and I had to stop and talk to this man. He said he was one of the first to get it. he lost over 300 lbs. The surgery had to be done 3 times because of complications. It almost killed him each time because of complications. Now we didnt ever find out why he was in the hospital this time but he said it had nothing to do with GBS. He said he would not be alive today if it were not for GBS. How is that for a testimony. He wished us all the luck in the world and walked on down the hall.

What an inspiration! I met a man when I was in the hospiatal who was three months out and had some complications he was next door and everyday he came by to tell me that I would feel 100% better the next day and I did. I was out of it most of the time but his daily inspirations really helped me feel so much better. I never even found out his name but he was my guardian angel those first few days!!! It so interesting ot meet people who know where you are and where you are going!

Thats a great story.... you know what is awesome about the hospital where our surgeons (EVERYONES SURGEON!) perform these procedures? There are nurses and staff there that have had the same thing done to them. To us they are these lil skinnies, but its cool when they come out and share their " lil secret" with us. Us WLS folk certainly have a bond, no matter where you are at or who you are! I love it!

I met a woman
When I had the surgery done I felt awfull. I would lay in my bed looking like death. Then this sweet girl game by my room, and said Hi how are you feeling I said oh I'm OK, but she knew the truth. She had the surgery done the same day as me. When we walked she walked laps around me, but would stop to see how I was feeling. She would stop by my room just to check on me. I could see the look and concern on her face. That girl turned out to be my pod mate. Her name is Stacie, and she has turned out to be one of my closest friends. Just thought I would share that little story with you guys. I know both of my pod mates, and we have a bond that is like no other.

I didn't know my pod mates, they were both John, 3/16/04. It was John, John, and Johns wife that day. John Johnson has never been on the forum, but I was ablet to meet him one time at the Feb 17 meeting, but never got close. I tried, but eventually I stopped calling. I saw several at my post op meeting, but never again.
Enjoy those pod mates, they are a gift from up above.

God Bless the man in the hall
Sometimes people drop in our lives for reasons. It may be to share a story to give us that drive me need to make it over the ruff mountain or to spread the word and share his/her story with others who are in need of inspiration. Also makes you appreciate how far this surgery has come along and how it continues to grow.

I know what you mean Bridget
I feel the same as you do Bridget. I wish I was close to my pod-mate. I went to see him, but he isnt one who likes to talk nor communicate so I will never be able to share that bond. But you have to remember Bridget, not all Dr.C's patients get onto the internet and visit his forrum. I think the closest person to a pod-mate to me was Bill, he had surgery the following morning and has spoke with me, and Irela has been the sweetest to me!

I feel blessed
Laura,
I would love to consider you my podmate. I know that a lady named Anna was also there with me. But you can consider me your podmate and I would be honored.
