I'm going to print this out on some nice cardstock and frame it.

Truthfully, it made me cry but they were happy tears... thank you my friend.

And to everyone else - thank you as well. Without the help and support from this forum, I doubt that I would be where I am right now. I'm truly at a better place in my life.

Talking of which. I wasn't going to share this with anyone but I now realise that in order to be truly comfortable and happy with the new me and the path I'm now on, I have to accept who I once was.

You just have to compare the following two pictures (taken just over 5 months apart) to know what I mean.

11 days before surgery:

My goodness you have done wonderful and you look so much younger from one photo to the next, besides the happiness in your eyes. Keep up the good work.

Rain,

I think you nailed it with the happiness thing.

I now feel a zest for life that I've never experienced before and it's taking a little getting used to.

I think this is the crux of any psychological or emotional issues that we feel collectively and that we might mis-identify as depression or anxiety. As far as I'm concerned, I've lived in a gigantic body for so long that I don't remember what feeling good feels like, and now that I do feel so much better, my brain and my body are in disparity. I wondered in the beginning of this process how much I might change mentally to go along with the changes physically. The truth is, I'm better all around now, even though I have my days where I don't feel as confident or as able or as acceptable. BUT, those days have gone from a daily thought to a bi-weekly thought, perhaps a monthly thought is on the way and from there...never thought of again.

This is the life that we were meant to be living from the beginning. It's awesome, it's healthy, and it's completely embraceable, though I think the weight loss in our minds will take much longer than the weight loss in our bodies!

It's all SO worth it though, isn't it?

Your zest is my zest! I'm so proud of you and inspired by you, Corrine. (And the other podmates Gwen and Nyn too!)

And I'm glad you liked the poem--though I hardly meant to make you cry!

Take care, honey,

-Mike
