yes...I feel sad
I have days where I miss eating whatever I want. I think it is only human. I do see myself falling back into bad habits. Being almost 2 years out, things change A LOT. I remember back when I was early post-op and how people who were further out started to struggle. Well, I have hit the struggling point. I get stressed out at work and immediately I run to food. I know in my mind that the old tape recorder is telling me to eat because it will make me feel better. I eat something junky and then regret it and tear myself up for it. I try to make good decisions and sometimes it doesn't work. The next day, I just concentrate harder to do the right thing. I feel sad when I mess up and don't follow the pouch rules. Today, I ate a whole McDonald's cheeseburger with no problem. Did it make me feel better? NO!! I felt awful and it made me sad because I ate grease and I didn't use my tool. I put junk in my body. I know it is wrong and when I am in a hurry, I just need to slow down and make the right decisions. So after all of this rambling, I have to say that I do get sad and wish some days that I can eat a whole carne asada burrito or just eat a drumstick ice cream cone....but in the back of my mind I have to remember that nothing tastes as good as thin feels.
Tonight, I saw an old friend of my husband's and he said....wow, I would've never recognized your wife....she looks like a Barbie. I had to laugh because I sure as heck don't have the figure of a Barbie. It made me smile. I really needed that.
Sorry to be off topic, but I just had to let you all know that this journey is tough, but all so worth every minute.
Thanks Dr. C...I am so blessed....you changed my life.

Thought I'd miss it, too
Yep - you do occasionally feel sad. I was also sad when I had a hysterectomy, but my health demanded that I give up the chance to ever have children.
The extremely fleeting pleasures of stuffing yourself with food until you are nearly ill simply pale in comparison to the continuing pleasures of finding your bones under the layers of fat, and being able to walk without pain, and seeing the expression in your husband's eyes when he really looks at you for the first time in years. The loss of food comfort is not a small one, and believe me, you will mourn that loss--but it will be more than balanced by the joy.
And after the surgery, being full is not pleasurable. You fill your pouch up too much, it either hurts or makes you nauseous. Talk about an effective behavior modification!

I've felt the sadness too - sometimes I really miss chugging down an ice-cold beer after cutting the grass or scarfing hot wings with the guys. But then I think about the things I don't miss - I don't miss being out of breath carrying the laundry upstairs, I don't miss having to shop for clothes in the "big girl" section, I don't miss not being able to put clothes in the dryer for fear they would shrink, I don't miss passing up social engagements because I was too self-conscious or had nothing to wear, I don't miss feeling sick and tired all the time. It's a trade-off. I think I traded well.

Trust me you won't miss the food! I hate to eat now and never enjoy eating.. food doesn't ever taste good to me anymore. I do not miss the constant obsession with what to eat next, how to lose the weight, how to not eat too much so I don't hurt, etc. I think I spent about two or three days after surgery grieving food, but after that it was over. You have so much more to look forward to than living to eat. You can eat to live and have a much better life.

Sometimes I miss being able to eat a big juicy burger or a piece of ice cream cake, but then I remember how miserable I was at my fattest.
With the surgery you will learn to eat to live instead of live to eat. You can still enjoy food, you just gotta learn what sits well and what doesn't.

I don't miss food
I am 2 monthes out and I could care less about food. Pre op I was all about food and soda. I think the others are right.....post op you find things to do that you couldn't do pre op.
Now food looks good to me IE applebee's commercials, but doesn't sound appetizing. Maybe I'm just wierd.

I miss Food
I do miss food very much, but I so enjoy my life much better now and it just keeps getting better, I can breath again, I can go for long walks, I no longer feel like my heart is going to jump out of my chest and best of all I get to do so much fun stuff with my little boy. So even if I do miss food the exchange is way worth it.

Like what favorite foods ? I have learned to look at what I was eating. We went to Disney World in April and Mickey Mouse ice cream was calling my name......I asked myself, " do you want to enjoy the day or spend it in the bathroom ? " Yes , I have cheated at times. But I enjoy the weight loss so much more..Once by accident I had a pudding I thought was sugar free....Now I know I can't have it anymore. I am not going to try to experiment any more with things with sugar in it. Before surgery I used splenda instead of sugar so it isn't much of a loss to me. There are so many ways to use substitutions in food now adays you may be surprised. Like others have said , your taste does change. Good Luck,
Sandy

Amen! Every once in a while, I'll wish that I could just gobble up something really unhealthy...but the urge passes quickly, and I feel so good about myself for not doing that anymore! There are ups and downs with food, but the ups FAR outweigh the downs.
Plus, I REALLY enjoy food a lot more now. Since we have to chew, chew, chew, I can really savor each bite. I leave meals feeling more satisfied than I ever remember feeling in my past life.
