Default ? about weight gain

Well after seeing my surgeon for my 15 month checkup, I learned a couple of interesting facts which I found alarming.

First the good news was when my surgeon looked at my stomach and saw no extra skin she was extremely surprised so no plastic surgery for me.

Following that she explained the process following GBP which is a large weight loss and then stablelizing and over the next 5-10 years to expect to gain 10-20 pounds!!!! Yikes, so then the old dieting mentallity kicked in to my brain that I need to lose another 20 pounds just in case of this weight gain. Has anyone ever heard this?????????

My surgeon told me to expect to gain back some of my weight. He said that most people lose 80+% of their excess weight during the first year. After two years they have gained back so that they end up having lost about 60% of their excess weight. Not everyone - but most people. At least that is what my dr said.

But see, being the analytical thinker, I wonder where those percentages come from and how the stats are tallied. For example.......

Is it? 90% lost 80% and ended up at 60%, 5% lost 100% and maintained, 3% lost 70% and ended up at 50%, 2% lost less than 50%

Or is it? 50% lost 100% and kept it off, 50% lost 60% and gained back 40%

Those scenarios....made up of course, would loosely speaking, and making stats very simplistic I know, show that kind of average. However, your chances of lsoing it all and maintaining would be very different. I don't trust stats when it comes to this surgery because I know some people that were not prepared and seek no support may skew the results.

I was told a 10-20% gain is normal, but I can certainly do things to not have a gain. ie: don't drink milk, good nutrition and exercise. Where have we heard that before?

Default weight gain

I really believe your body adapts to a point and stops. When i had surgery three years ago I was 240. I'm 5-4. I got down to 118 which was too thin for me. I looked sickly. I ended up going up to 137 and that's where i've been for like a year and a half. i don't gain or loose. that's just where i stay. in fact, in january i had gallbladder surgery and lost 5 pounds. guess what? i'm back to 137. that's where my body stays. as long as i'm within normal weight is all i care about. It's on the high end of normal, but it's normal.

See, it's like spinning, which is exercise. Sooooo, if you read stats about 80% of the time, but feel dizzy at least 40% of the time, you will burn an average of 60% more calories and be more successful with your surgery. Geez, someone should hire me!

I'm scared to ask about pay, but just so you know, 95% of people who make up statistics earn about 50% more than the 99.87% of the population that work other less important jobs.
