Default Able to eat a ton

Lately, I have been able to eat so much. I am 19 months out and I feel like I can almost eat a somewhat normal meal. I am able to tolerate more, too. Don't get me wrong, I still dump. It is just that I can eat my normal size amount of meat, but I can also eat some bread and some salad at the same time. I can drink with meals, but always was able to do that. Are there any long-term post ops that feel like they can eat a lot more than at one year out. It is kinda scary, but I constantly remind myself of the HUGE portions I ate pre-op. I noticed that my face is starting to fill out and not look so gaunt which is a very good sign for me.

Dale,

I think I remember a time when you were concerned about how far you were below goal.Maybe your body is now trying to find a weight closer to what your goal originaly was.

When I got about 18 mos out is when I started cycling and found that I was consuming more than I was before my one year mark. But I also know that my activity level increased greatly and has continued too as I have really increased my training. So it would make sense that my need for increased calorie consumption is natural. On my one double century ride last year I burned 10,000+ calories and average training ride is about 2500-3000.I too drink at meals but I also spread my meals to 5 a day.

The other thing is that at some point after surgery your body does not have the excess fat to feed off of and your body is going to ask for energy to burn and at that point you may just start eating a little more.I also beleive that if you put your body under extreme physical stress from exercise that the type of energy it craves it adapts to accept it even though in theory you shouldnt be able to consume it without some kind of gastric problem.
I am glad that you are pleased with how you are changing and hope that all continues to go well.

Default dale

dale,
I am three years out in april. i can't believe it. I feel the same way you do and when i was about 18 to 20 months out i started feeling the way you do. I would tell myself i'm not eating as much as i was before surgery. I would say i usually am able to eat the equivalent of a child's meal. you will see your body will stablize and adjust. that's why it is so important early on to develop good eating habits so that when you get to this point you're eating the right food.

Damon and Melanie,

Great points. I was hoping I am at a normal stage and that my pouch wasn't stretched too far.

Thanks for the responses

Dale,

I already feel that way!

Except I do not dump!

I get so scared!!

Because I can not excersize due to the hernia, I am PARANOID!! of gaining weight because of my ability to eat!

I have been floating around 173- 175, but sometimes it goes to 177 and I freak out. My P.S. Doc, says I am fine and that after the skin removal I will be at goal, but I still feel like a tub of lard and am so afraid I will gain weight!!
Besides the fact that I really never got to 155 which is where Kelly said I should be I feel like a failure. Could the last 20 pounds really be the skin?

Any whooo! I feel your pain Dale, but in your case since you have been under weight, I think you should be happy about it. When I first met you you weighed about 120 and you looked perfect, not so gaunt. I would shoot for somewhere around there and hopefully you are feeling better!

Default Rain - you look so good....

I wouldn't worry about what Kelly's goal was for you!!! Plus after your surgery I'm sure it will make the world of difference on how you feel about yourself - you are by NO means a tub of lard!!!!
You look fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rain; Kelly's gol for me was 141, imagine me losing another 30 pounds? Could you? ewwwwwwwwwwwwww!

My appetite is good too, but I dnt give into it. If I eat tacos I have one. I KNOW I can eat 2 but I wont allow it. Hamburgers to, I will only allow my self half of it. I always portion really small, like a lil kid. Like hw you would feef a toddler, cuz I know thats all I need but if I want more I'll go and get it. I usually dont though. I feel as though I have trained myself well. As for dumping it takes alot MORE to make it happen but ti does happen (thank God) Also I dont feel hungry anymore, and if I wait until 1 to eat I usual get really sick and feel awful and can barely eat anything... it happens everytime. SO I force myself to eat (an apple) every morning. I sure do love this tool though, and glad its still working.

Hey gaunt is hip chicken! lol

Default My TT is this coming Friday...

I'm going for blood draw tomorrow and hopefully everything will be a "go"! I'm nervous as hell, but any pain has got to be worth the end results. I keep looking up before and after pics on the web and it's amazing what can be done.

I went for my before photo's on Thursday and my doctor said my results should be dramatic - I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

The pain for my TT / hernia repair was nothing compared to GBS. You will do just fine. I had another TT with the last repair and did just fine with the pain. Don't worry. I will be thinking of you on Friday.
