Thats is GREAT advise RESEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH...It took me 3yrs to make the decision to have WLS.I went against my family to make me healthier.I did have complications with my surgery but survived. When I was morbidly obese I was risking my life everyday(high blood pressure, bad back ect..).
The surgery is a scary thing but with the proper research and support it will turn out fine.
Even with the complications I had with my WLS I think I made the best decision for me Im happier & healthier....

I went into this knowing that death was a chance that I was willing to take. I would die fat or die trying to be healthy. I belive as long as you find a good Doc and follow his orders you should be fine. Problems happen, but that is a risk you take.....I think life is worth fighting for.

Good luck

I looked into WLS because nothing worked. My body refused to cooperate. I educated myself about the pros and cons and decided to do it. I love my family dearly and want to be here.

11 days to go...

First of all, I am a mother of 3 daughters, and I contemplated on having this surgery for 3 years. The main reason was I was scared to death. My mother-n-law had the surgery last year and died before leaving the hospital. This scared me and made me postpone my surgery. Well the more I post poned it, the more health issues arose with me. High Blood Pressure, Diabetes, and Issues with joints in my knees. Anyway, The more I thought about it, the more I considered the fact, that if I didn't lose the weight I was going to die anyway, and I would rather die trying than just giving up. So I thought about the surgery, all the pros and cons, as well as being able to enjoy life with my kids instead of being sedetary. So I convinced myself that my overall health was fine, and that this surgery will help correct other areas of my health that needed some help. So Aug. 2005 I went in with a positive attitude and a few prayers and came out a few days later. Went in weighing 247lbs. 3 Months and 12 days later I am weighing in at 164lbs and have more energy than ever, no high bloob pressure and no diabetes. I went from a size 22 womens to a size 12/14 juniors. So I hope all this is a word of encouragement to you, as well as a message to let you know that you are not alone, when you are nervous or scared about having the surgery. It is a big decision and life altering one. The decision I made when I decided to have this surgery was to LIVE and not leave my children, they are my inspiration in all things and my "Solid Rock" through all things.
God Bless You through whatever decision you make, and Best Wishes for all your weight loss endeavors.

Default thanks

Hi and thanks to everybody who replied with reasurence for me to have the op.
i am now three weeks after the op and have had no complications. i have lost 28lb in weight. i am struggling with the sloppy food as i dont find it tasty but i am sure i will manage until i can eat solid foods again. i have cheated once and eaten a small amount of pizza but i suffered pains in my stomach and would not do it again!
things are looking good for me and i would recommend the op to anyone like me who could not loose weight the conventional way.
thanks

Default I don't regret it

I had a serious complication when I had WLS. An artery suture didn't hold and I was bleeding internally. I had to be opened back up and I lost quite a bit of blood. It was very scary. That being said, I don't regret having my surgery. The quality of life that I enjoy today was SO worth the risk. It's only natural to be afraid. If you are a believer, pray, A LOT. LOL. I hope things go well for you, what ever your final decision is.

Troy.

Smile surgery fright

I too, was really afraid of something going wrong and leaving my family motherless. I have 5 children (two of them still home ages 14 & 11) and 8 grandkids! I started looking into this surgery 3 years ago. postphoned one time (chickend out) but, my health became worse with diabetes, depression, stressed out to the max, high blood pressure and the meds were making me feel horrible!!!! I thought to myself, "what an image I'm giving my children to see each day" the mom who has trouble breathing walking up her stairs. I started the surgery proceedure again about a little over a year ago and finally had it done May 17th. I can't tell you what a difference I feel already (especially off all of those medications)! I have way more energy that I had and feel like I'll actually live longer and healthier now to be able to see my kids grow up and grandkids and participate in their lives more than I was able to do before! The doctor's are wonderful and the surgery was nothing that I thought it would be .. (I could kick myself for not following through the first time I started) but, better late than never! I want to be around for my family and the choice for me was obvious. The first week after wasn't 1/2 as bad as I anticipated either and I didn't have any help at home during that week. (other than my 11 yr old daughter) . My younger sister had this done 3 years ago (she is 30 now) and is absolutely beautiful, healthier than ever and all is well. I know I've gone on a lot here but, I really understand where you are coming from and I wish you the best of luck!
