Hi everyone!
I'm new here and I hope it's ok to join even though I'm four years out. I had Open RNY on August 30, 2001 by Dr. Julie Leverton of the BTC in Wylie, Texas. At my heaviest, I weighed 325 and weighed 315 at the time of surgery. I dropped to 165 after a year and a half. I joined WW and dropped 10 more and had my tummy tuck and breast reduction. I got down to 147 for about 3 minutes (on a stop watch) and went back up to 155. I stayed there for about six months and now weigh between 165 to 175 depending on the time of year! LOL! I've gotten as high as 182 but average right around 170. I wanted to get to 130 but never saw those numbers - guess that's only in a dream.
I've never been part of a support group except online because I live in a very small town and don't know many people here. The support site I went to online shut down so I have no where to go now.
Now that I'm four years out, life is pretty much average. I can't even remember being large at all. Now I have other problems like bursitis in my left hip and the left side of my lower back goes out pretty frequently. I had to have shoe inserts made for my feet because they are in so much pain. I don't know if this stuff was caused by my surgery or existed before but it I guess at my age (47) it comes with being ANCIENT!
I don't even think about the 'old' days anymore and my kids don't even remember when I was heavy and what I looked like. They have to see the pictures to even remember back then. I used to could eat a whole regular meal as though I never had surgery, but lately things get stuck early and I can't eat nearly as much as I could. I don't know if I have any type of obstruction, but it sure helps to keep my weight down! LOL!
I have a website if anyone is interested. I raise ShihTzu's now and plan on breeding them next year as a hobby. They are the cutest puppies ever! I have a specific page for their site as well. I hope to hear from all of you and I hope I am welcome here! I sure miss talking to others who are long term post ops! Thank you so much and Happy Holidays to everyone!
