Default Dumping Feeling without eating anything?

Hi Everyone,

I am almost four years post op on December 5th. I have done well with my surgery up until the last 3 months in that I have gained about twenty pounds and its mostly due to just eating more than I should through out the day. I know I can take the weight off so that's my major concern (well is but isn't).

For the last week I have had the feeling of dumping without eating ANYTHING! I've had it while just sitting at my desk working, watching TV. And last night while driving. It's not a every other day thing, it's a every day thing several times a day. Last night was the worse while stopped in a major traffic jam on the 55 freeway, I literally had to stop my car open the door and throw up. Since my surgery I am not someone who usually vomits so this was very very very scary for me as well as extremely painful. (Always has been since surgery.) I'm just wondering if any one else has gone through this.

I did visit my "Moron" PCP (I know that sounds harsh but I hate my PCP thank God we are changing at the first of the year) yesterday for a follow up regarding my hernia surgery next month. I gave her all of the symptoms and she basically didn't give me an answer. She said she didn't know what would cause it and basically asked me several times if I was sure I wasn't eating anything to trigger the reaction. I finally raised my voice and told her, no nothing, It comes out of nowhere! I'm not starving myself either as she implied (hello I've gained some weight) so that's not causing the nausea and light headedness, or the feeling that I need to just lay down. (I did three times at work yesterday!)

Sorry this is so long but has anyone post op had this occur? My blood work is ok, nothing wrong. If you have how long did it last?

Any feedback would be so incredibly appreciated.

Thank you, your dizzy and tired friend,

Kristen

Could be low blood sugar. Perhaps you're waiting too long in between meals. Could also be an ulcer. Can you have a referral back to your surgeon to f/u?

Default Thank you for your suggestions

Hi My blood sugar is actually ok. Usually when it gets low I can tell for me it's a totally different feeling and I always carry something with me in case I get that ugly feeling of low blood sugar.

As for Pregnancy, UGH, please cross your fingers that it's not the case, the thought crossed my mind but I honestly don't think that is the situation. With your suggestions though I am going to go pick up a test at lunch.

I think with my cycle though that it would be near impossible to be pregnant although much stranger things have happened.

I just don't want to be in a situation where I could be so sick that I could hurt someone else, such as driving.

My Surgeon unfortunatley is in Northern Ca and I am in Southern, he was an amazing surgeon, unlike my PCP, I know when they did the blood they didn't test for pregnancy, but unfortunately I don't know if that would have shown up on a regular lab test. I am kinda clueless when it comes to some medical things.

Thank you ladies,

Kristen

My Dr does not test for pregnancy with the labs I have done. I had, had my labs done on friday and my appt. was on a Monday and I took the home test Fri. Night. I was feeling the same as you. I felt like I was dumping and up untill I started feeling that way most everything agreed with me ( I do not eat anything with sugar) but things like chicken and shrimp were making me feel icky.I thought there was no way I was pregnant I still don't know how it happend!.rofl
Keep us posted hope you feel better soon. Maybe you can just call your surgeon and he can recomend different labs to be done or maybe he knows of a surgeon closer to you that you can follow up with. Just a thought.

Default Pregnancy?

Actually, I thought of pregnancy too. Please don't forget that your body is dumping hormones like crazy. Many women become much more fertile after WLS. Honestly, it's not unheard of to become pregnant after WLS.

I would recommend doing a pregnancy test soon. Better to know for sure sooner than later.

Good luck!

Hi, Since I freaked out thinking it might be that the "rabbit died" (thanks Bridg!) I took test and nope not that, although it's not ideal testing situation. I am gonna call my PCP hold my breath and count to ten when I talk to her, and request to have a blood test just to be sure. It's a little soon to know if it might be accurate with a home test.

Thanks for the feedback everyone, so I am thinking none of you have had the dumping not related to food or drink? I'm having such a hard time functioning and just trying to make it through the day.

When I called the PCP this afternoon (she needs to call me back) The advice nurse asked me if I was having any undue stress or maybe it might be nerves! OMG, I slammed phone on desk several times hard (boss didn't appreciate) and said let them know the only stress I have is that I am sick all the time and dealing with them! Sorry for ranting about my PCP, but lord knows this woman is absolutely horrible! And her staff nurses are worse... I'd change today but need to get my hernia stuff taken care of prior to switching docs!

TGIF!
