Thought I posted to this thread, but I must have shut the screen before it made it up. Anyhoo...I'm in for Monday. Gotta try the pumpkin sausage soup. it's truly killer. My one amendment was to use non fat dairy stuff in it, because my non gall bladder having self would croak on full fat anything.

As far as a diet mentality goes...yeah, it's a diet. But it's just somehow different since my gut hormones were changed by gastric bypass. It's still a restriction of what I can eat, but I don't get that crazy desire to mow down the kitchen when I just hear the word diet. Good luck to us!

Goal! I did it!
111 pounds gone since my RNY
125 total pounds gone forever!
Maintaining within a few pounds up and down. 130 is my goal and I've been hovering a pound or two over it for months now.

I would just like to point out that the 5DPT was never intended to be a "fad diet" or even to cause weight loss during the five days (although it usually does) - it's supposed to help WLS patients get back on track with their healthy post-op eating habits, re-emphasize proper portion sizes, and break the simple carb consumption (or addiction ) that so many fall prey to.

It may be good for breaking a long plateau, but it's really meant to get people to follow their programs again long-term. It's not necessary to follow the 5DPT's restrictions for more than five days, but if people go back to their poor eating habits after they finish, it defeats the purpose of the pouch test and they will definitely regain weight, just as people do after suffering through actual "fad diets"...
Thanks for the reminder that this isn't just to lose weight and not it's actual intention. I'm finding I'm still hungry after eating most days, so I'm hoping to 'shrink my pouch' as is listed.. and as I've mentioned, things have been creeping in to my diet a bit much recently. The lack of progress these last few months by being stringent just became too much to deal with since my wt loss was going nowhere and I succumbed to my desires for really bad food of late.

Yay! Debz is in!... Funny.. this non-gall bladder having self tolerates all the fat in the world it seems! But I'm using low fat dairy in my soups as well- I'm making the squash and white bean and maybe the beef & barley.

I'm sooo depressed about the Fage & Kashi thing tho

Hey Gang... Last day, but I'll be changing my eating habits to this direction. What I've learned is HOW TO get in all my protein.... this is something I have NOT been able to do ever. I don't think I ever tried hard enough...

The 5DPT helped me break my snack habit of crackers, cheddar cheese, and sweets!

This has not been a "fad" diet for me. It's been "BOOT CAMP" to get me on track and down the right road. I've had 50+ yrs of eating "my way" and it took me to the place that landed me in the surgeon's office.

I care about my life. I am so appreciative of the surgery. I need to do what I'm supposed to be doing.

I'm excited that so many of you have "signed up" for next week. I've tried starting this a couple of times, and am so happy I was able to DO IT this time around.

Day 5's Challenge: It's "Date Day" with my granddaughter... (celebrating her 5th bday). We're going to a movie and that popcorn... oye! I will be strong... wondering if the fat and carbs can get into my system if I breathe deeply!!! LOL! If the weather holds, I hope to take her to Jimmy the Groundhog's apple orchard, then some girly shopping!

So I am getting my game plan ready today, so not been looking forward to Monday, but for some reason reading how awesome Katie has done has gotten my spirits up.

Then with addition of Laura and hot momma DebZ hell how can we not kick ass as this?

I am making the pumpkin sausage soup I know. The rest up in the air at this point since I have been procrastinating all week like lazy bish. But Monday I will be raring to go, so if you have anything negative to say, please keep that shit to yourself. Because we are gonna rock this 5 dpt and we don't need your Debbie Downer self and the negative words.

I am pumped about this Monday. WE CAN DO THIS LADIES!

Hey Cassie! I'll be cheering you gals on from the sidelines.... I really do feel better have been sleeping better (maybe because I'm not beating myself up from eating the wrong foods?)... Life is SO good!

SOUP sounds good.... weather has turned COLD here in Wisconsin... football, geese flying over, leaves brilliant colors... prefect time for a steamy bowl of soup!

I'm getting my game plan together today as well. I haven't decided what type of soup I'm going to make, but I will make something. I'm starting to get excited. I'm really looking forward to getting back to basics and getting back in the right direction.

We do have a strong group of women supporting each other thru this. That will make things much easier.

Katie - I like the Book Camp analogy. That's how i'm actually looking at it.
Cassie - I second the request for positive comments only. No negativity allowed

Only 3 days left. Woo Hoo

I just wanted to encourage all you ladies who are taking on this challenge. Good for you for realizing you are worth getting yourself on track and you are worth taking the best care of yourself that you can.

I did the 5dpt once. I lost a few pounds, which was nice but what I noticed the most is that it broke my carb cravings. I tried a couple bites of pretzels after doing it and I actually dumped on them. Total shock to me because I rarely dumped and never on carbs. Eric, is right about this being a way to get back in touch with your pouch. That really is what it was made for. I still do kind of a form of it when I notice some weight creeping back on. Basically I go back to 2 meals of liquids a day and stop the carbs. It helps get me back in touch.

One issue I had with the 5dpt was the amount of fat the recipes had. I try to keep my fat below 40 grams a day so I reduced fat where ever possible. I honestly just don't feel good with high fat foods.

Well I'll be cheering you ladies on and Katie? SO good to see your smiling face back on the forum and thank you for the spirit you have brought. Don't you dare beat yourself up, my dear because you are one special lady!
