Default Angry Feelings

Hi All

I am almost 2 years out and for the most part, I am DELIGHTED! I say for the most part becuase for the past year or so I've noticed (and so has my family) that I often feel angry. There is no reason for me to feel this way. A lot of the time I feel like it's bubbling up from within for no apparent reason.

I have nothing to be angry about. I don't remeber feeling angry like this ever before when I was thin or heavy (you know the yo-yo).

Is anyone else feeling like this? I'm wondering if it's a homonal imbalance or something?

Exclamation Dealing

Robin:

It could definitely be from hormonal changes. I'm going through some hormonal changes right now. I was told that estrogen is stored in the fat cells. So, when you lose a lot of weight, the estrogen is released into your system and can wreak havoc.

Another thing to consider is the fact that you no longer have food as an outlet for anger (or any other emotion). Many of us use food for comfort, release, control, etc. Then when we have WLS, the food can no longer be a tool or crutch.

If your symptoms continue and you can't seem to find a way to deal with them yourself, I would highly recommend seeking counseling. It never hurts to talk with someone about it.

Good luck with your journey.

I agree with Dara. I have noticed the same thing about myself but I'm not as far out. I'm working on finding another outlet for my stress but no luck yet. It never hurts to talk to your doc about it too. There are a ton of meds out there for anxiety etc. now.

YES, I have been dealing with the same thing! I am 3 months out and have ups and downs like crazy. I talked to my doctor and he put me on Zoloft, so I hope it begins to kick in soon since I just started it a week ago. If this continues, people may think I'm crazy! It doesn't help that I feel more confident, which is great, but bad when you're feelings of anger rise and fall like crazy!

I think for sure it is hormones and quick weight loss. I know I get angry much easier than before and more tempermental, too. I try to find an outlet even if it means to go walk the shopping malls...lol. I sometimes just have to get on the phone and call someone and vent instead of walking into the kitchen to look in the cupboards. It is very easy to snack on something in between meals if I am angry, stressed, or bored and these things are what got me in trouble before wls. I try really hard to find an out when I am angry and I truly feel hormones are the culprit 99 percent of the time.

I also get angry pretty easily. I mostly get really bitter at times and feel that it's not fair that I have to cut off all my favorite foods when a normal person can sit there and pig out and still lot hot.

Default Oh yeah

Hey hey Robin,
I just began counseling (with someone who makes me feel totally stable... see previous) and am dealing with the same thing. She mentioned that I had no long term anger issues in my eval and no history, but that maybe I was eating away my anger?? Just a theory....

Default thanks for your support

I hope it is the estrogen and that my system settles down - real soon! It's nice to know I'm not alone. It just feels so wierd becuase when I tell my husband that I can't help it, it's hard for him to understand.
