might be from potassium.. and or calcium.. I know cramps but not spasms. Depending on the muscle, try to do some stretches.

Lack of Potassium will make your legs cramp. Lack of calicum makes them spasm.

This is pretty close to what I do as well. My "rule of thumb" on most vitamins is 2x RDA.

I had the same problem a couple of years ago with both spasms and cramps. Once I got on a good routine the problems went away. In my case, I am sure this was a problem with my electrolytes (calcium, potassium, sodium, etc.). Be aware that you can only absorb so much of these at one time, so you'll need to take your vitamins (multi and calcium) a couple of times a day to get in all that you need.

I must not be getting enough calcium. I'll try to take more.

Hi, Renae!

I had my surgery in December 2008 and hit the gym for the first time EVER about 2 months later. I go pretty often, as I am determined to make the most of this opportunity (my miracle). Anyway, I was getting night cramps and spasms really bad. I was taking the recommended vitamins and Calcium to the exact directions of my surgeon but it didn't help. I tried eating a banana each day (Took two or three sittings) for the potassium and that didn't help. Finally I was talking to the nutritionist up at my gym and she told me to try taking Magnesium supplements. I stopped at the store on the way home and within two days, never had another cramp, no matter how intense the workout was. Might work the same for you!
Best of luck and don't let it discourage you!

Thanks so much, Donna. I'll be going to the store to get me some.
