Default Never could even believe.......

Today was my first year check-up with Dr. Callery and I have to say that when he saw me, I think he was shocked. He spent a lot of time with me and I know he is very concerned about my condition. I weighed in at 113 and he asked me if I have been stable with my weight. I told him that I am continuing to lose and my caloric intake is more. He told me that I must take nurtritional supplementation of some sort in between meals and gain 17 pounds. What??? Who would have ever thought that a doctor would tell me to gain weight. I am only 5'2" and I think eventually I will level off to 125 or so. I think my low weight is due to all of the surgeries I have been through in the past month. He also checked out my hernia repairs and agreed with the other 2 surgoens that did the previous repairs which is I need to wait until the repair is completely healed to go back in and repair again. Besides, I need to get strong and gain weight. I think I scared Dr. Callery when I told him I couldn't eat the same as I did before the first hernia repair...maybe they squished my pouch or something. Anyway, sorry to ramble, but I just wanted to share my story and how you really can't see how you look in the mirror or perceive yourself until someone else points it out to you. Yes, I love be skinny...but the public thinks I am SICK!!

Thanks for listening and as always supporting me unconditionally.

Hi Dale,

I am sure you are absolutely right in thinking that all the surgeries are wearing on your body and making you lose more. I feel so bad that you have to have ANOTHER surgery. The same thing happened to my Mom. It was like once she had the hernia she couldn't seem to get it fixed. I think it took her 3 times.

Good Luck!!!!!

Cindy

Big hugs to you my tiny friend. I was talking to a friend of mine last night, she lives in Deleware, she had GB two years ago, and dropped down to 91 pounds .... in her case, and I kid you not; her surgeon left a patch of gauze INSIDE her. Like I said last night, at least we know you are in very capable hands. Love you bunches!

Dale,
I think you're the reason Dr. Callery wants to do Lap on me instead of open. I think he was seeing you while my honey and I waited yesterday. So, in a totally selfish way, thanks.

But, I'm so sorry you're not feeling better yet. I'm praying for complete healing for you!

Nancy~

You are not selfish in any way....you are just making the best decision for yourself. Doctor Callery had me scheduled for lap and at my pre-op, I had him change to open because I wanted him to have the "hands on" approach and I wanted him to check for cancer because I had cancer before. I think no matter which way you go, Dr. C is the best and very skilled.

That is atrip to be told to gain back weight. The last time I saw you, I thought you looked great. You looked like a tiny person, but I didnt think sickly. Lately I have been hearing how alot of folks 2 1/2 years out and longer are gaining back weight. Just sit back and relax, Im sure some will come back on naturally. Especially when your healed up, 100% and back on your feet. What does Tino say? At least you are well enough to participate in tomorrow's festivities. Stay strong lil sister!

Bridget~

Tino wants me to gain weight....he loves me no matter what I weigh, but he is afraid I am too thin and worries a lot. He is constantly trying to feed me protein and stuff to make me stronger. I love him for caring so much. I agree that with time, I will put some weight back on.

Dale,

I am sorry you are still not feeling well. Isn't it strange to get told to gain weight? I think we may need to eat more protein for our muscles to heal after surgery because of the RNY. I am trying to eat a protein bar for a snack twice a day (about 30 grams) in addition to good protein filled meals. I am going to see if I can start to build some muscle before I go for my next hernia repair. Maybe this will help you too.

Now if I can only find some protein bars that aren't so sweet tasting!
