Default Plastic Surgery Info

For those who have had PS, a few questions:

What did you have?

How long was your recovery?

Did your insurance cover it, or you, or both?

Thanks guy's..I'm at the point where it's time for the consult.

Gerry,
My insurance only paid for the panelectomy. I paid for the lipo and tightening of the muscles. I do know that my dr. made a proposal to Sharp Reese Stealey for all GBPS to have the complete TT. I don't know what happened with all that.
I took 2 weeks off of school. I was very tired but I managed. Everyone is different.

Cool

I had my plastic surgery at about the 1 year out mark. I was at goal so I decided to go ahead. I also was getting rashes under the pannis and my PCP told me tho only way to take care of the rashes was with a TT. Here is the process I went through:

1) October 2004: Developed a rash under pannis. Went to PCP and he gave me some cream for the rash. Documented in file (important as insurance needs to see 3 months of treatment for apporval)
2) Thanksgiving 2004: Another rash. trip to PCP some more cream, PCP said need TT.
3) December 2004: Another rash back to PCP, he put in referral for Abdomiplasty.
4) January 2005: Approval to Plastic Surgeon for consult for Abdomiplasty.
5) January 2005: Initial Consultation with Plastic Surgeon return appointment in February.
6) February 2005: Developed a rash 1 week before Plastic Surgeon appointment. Went to see PCP and he said let the rash be in full bloom for your next appointment with Plastic Surgeon.
7) February 2005: Appointment with Plastic Surgeon, took pictures of rash and pannis for insurance approval.
8) March 2005: Insurance approved Abdomiplasty
9) March 2005: Pre-op, Decided to have surgery outpatient.
10) March 17, 2005: Surgery Date

My TT has been really great. Very pleased with the results! I will say there were some "blue times" or times of depression recovering from this surgery. I was pretty sore after and for about 2 to 3 weeks post-op after I got off the pain killers. I still have some tightness in my abdomin but was told that was the muscles that he tightened. I have some numbness in my belly in different areas, I was told that should disappear in 6 months, but that some of that numbness may be there forever. Also residual swelling can last as long as 6 months. If I never get any better, I am pleased with the results!

I can say that yout TT looks awesome and your doctor did a wonderful job. What you said about the "blues" is what I am going through as you already know. The numbness and swelling I have as well. It is such an odd feeling, but well worth it.

The insurance covered my TT because of the hernia repair and I had to pay an additional fee to the hospital for the "cosmetic" portion (extended time in OR) which was very minimal.

I had some other ps surgery that I can discuss with you in private next time I see you or you can PM me.

Gerry,

I hae some good referrences, too. I had 3 different surgeons from past PS surgery that I love. Dr. Humber and Dr. Nigro in Encinitas and Dr. McCarthy in Vista. Dr. Humber is my favorite, but that is just my opinion. I am sure there are plenty of surgeons out there for ya in your area and most of them do free consultations. Good luck and get your pcp to refer you.

I hope to see you and Stacie soon....I am certain I will probably not recognize you two cuties!!

I had two separate operations before my GBP and then started gaining weight back. My insurance didn't cover any of it. I had an extended TT - which basically means it was a TT that went further out on the hips than usual. This was to set my body up for a lower body lift. The second surgery extended my TT into a lower body lift (it goes all the way around my body). I also had an arm lift and an inner thigh lift as well as quite a bit of liposuction at that time. I went back to work 1/2 days after 2 weeks with my first surgery and 1/2 days after 2 1/2 weeks with my second. I should have taken more time off but couldn't. Even though I have gained weight since I had the surgeries I am glad I had them done and can still tell the difference in my body.

My sister had GBP and her insurance paid for paneculectomy (sp?) and an inner thigh lift - the kind where the scar goes down the inside of your thigh. She got approved within one week of submission to her insurance company.

I had a tummytuck in April of 2005.

It was a big one were the navel was moved and alot of skin removed. The surgeon removed my scar from my open gastric bypass. So now i have a new scar that looks like an upside down "T".

5lbs of skin was removed and some lipo was also done above the navel. All together 6.5lbs was removed.

I was home from work for 6 weeks and then i moved to another town and started a new job.

I have pictures before and after of my tummy if anyone is interested i can send a link to the pictures.
