Cool Did you Take Your Vitamins Today?

Did You Take Your Vitamins Today?

So… you had your surgery a while ago, you lost the weight (or most of it), you can eat and drink without much of a problem, your feeling pretty normal. Right? Are you taking your vitamins? Everyday? You better be! Many of us as we get a little further out in our journey, start feeling a little more “normal” and start to lose some of that initial enthusiasm to do everything “right” and just want to live a “normal” life. However, we are not “normal” and vitamin deficiency is a very real and very dangerous condition that can sneak up on us and make us very sick if not kill. It is not something to take lightly. We were all told to take our vitamins by our surgeon, but the main focus for most of us was losing the weight. Now that the weight is off, or close to being off, we need to refocus on our long term health. None of us want to be the statistic. That statistic is that 33% of all WLS patients develop a vitamin deficiency. This is preventable. Follow your Surgeons instructions and make sure that you are taking what he recommends to the letter, every day!

This is what I take:

Synthroid - prescription for life

Acid Reducer - Generic Over the counter (Rantadine) Target Brand 4.99 for 60
Multivitamin - Target Brand for women (pharmacutical quality fast desolve) 7.99 for 200
Iron Suppliment - 65mg Generic brand 4.99 for 100
Calcium citrate - Target Brand 6.99 for 200
Omega 3 Fish Oil - Vitamin Shop Brand 4.99 for 100
Stool Softener - Generic Target Brand 4.99 for 60
B-12 sublingual 2/week - Trader Joes 6.99 for 100
1 scoop Isopure Vanilla Protein Shake before bed 20gm protein. 32.00 for a Tub

This is my routine, it makes sure that I get everything I need without breaking the bank. My blood work has been great so far.

What every your routine is, or what your favorite brand of supplement is. Don’t get lazy, your health depends on it!

mary is absolutely right on the vitmins. my surgery was april 2003 and i have never missed a day. here's what i take
1 multi vitamin-target
4 calcium citrate-target(1000 mgs. total) plus i eat yogurt every day and have milk in my coffee
1 iron 65 mg. (get at costco) nature's brand
2 fish oil capsules(costco brand) 1000 mgs.
I was told not to make more than 1000 a day as too much can cause strokes.

Hey girls!

What's the deal with fish oil capsules? No one told me that I should be taking them. Is that voluntary or did Dr. Callery tell you to take them?

Default Fish oil? Omega 3

The fish oil is not mandatory, but I take it for two reasons. It was recommended by The writer of the South Beach Diet as a help in preventing heart disease, he is a cardiologist first and a writer second, and heart disease runs in my family. Second, it adds a healthy fat back into my diet. I have noticed since I started taking it that I am less constipated and that I have better skin. My skin had gotten very dry after surgery and I have noticed that it is much better now. I take one capsule each evening.
