Default 10 years post op

I have just recently found this forum and noticed that no one more than a few years post op has posted so I thought I would jump in here. I started at 245# and I am currently 125#. I was only trying to reach 140#. I did reach my goal and stayed there for years but only in the last few months found out that I am hypothyroid and now that I am being treated I am losing more weight.

I am concerned that I will now lose too much weight because I was not diagnosed and treated for thyroid disease before my surgery. Has anyone heard of a GB patient in my situation?

I will gladly answer any questions anyone has regarding long term results.

Marina

Hi Marina! Welcome to the best board in all the land. Its really cool to see you post! Its great to hear from long term WLS patients, especially cool to hear that you are keeping off the weight.

I dont know of anyone that has been diagnosed with anythibg like that off the top of my head... regarding fearing losing too much weight we suggest taking the POUCH RULES FOR DUMMIES and reverse it. Not sure how much food you intake currently.

I ook forward to hearing from you again, and again, and again, and......

How great is it to have someone ten years out!!!

It's good for our friends and family to know that we've "met" someone who's survived long-term.

Welcome, you'll be an asset!!!!

Default Protein not only 1st but mostly!

Hello Everyone!

Thank you for the warm welcome! After 10 years the most important thing I learned is not only protein first but mostly protein. Even fat is okay as long as you don't eat carbs. Once you train your body not to rely on carbs as fuel you can eat some carbs without too much trouble but carbs make our bodies hold onto fluid and actually make us hungrier by lowering blood sugar.

I don't eat any kind of ice cream, cake, or regular sodas ever. I do drink diet coke but only after the first year. At first the carbonation caused me pain. I will still get some pain if I drink something that is too cold too quickly (like iced tea on a hot day...sometimes I just gulp it down too fast and I get cramps).

By the way, I still weigh myself every day. Before I started losing weight again because of my thyroid, I would always watch my eating more closely if I gained even 2#'s.

Anyone had plastic surgery yet?

Marina

Default Ps

Yes I have had a tummy tuck, boob job, and a outer thigh lift. At end of Aug i plan to have a back lift and my outer-thighs lifted some more. I tend to carry all my wieght in my thighs and buttom, so i am really looking forward to that.

I really appreciate your advice, I am 2 1/2 years out and lost a total of 150 pounds. I have put about 12 pounds back on in the last 8 months. I know what i am doing wrong i am not following the rules. It nice to have you reconfirm the lifestyle and what I need to get back to.

If i can answer any questions about PS please let me know, I'll be glad to return the favor.

Default Year and 1/2

Hi girls! I am 1 and 1/2 years out and I have 29 more pounds to go until goal. I am looking into PS and was wondering if you guys went self-pay or insurance. I don't have any rashes, but I have A LOT of back pain and my legs get in the way when I walk and stuff. Do you know if any of this would help to get at least some of it covered? Any info is greatly appreciated.

Hi Tracy, I didn't have the insurance company pay for it. On my tummy tuck and ect. I didn't know the insurance company would pay for PS. I was uninformed. For myself on the backlift my Dr has said that I don't have enough loose skin so I have decided to pay for it myself.

But yes some times the insurance co will pay for it. I would start at my primary care Dr and ask him to refer you. All you can do is try.
