10 years! Wow! It is wonderful to hear from you and know that this can be done and done with great success. I have an under active thyroid so I don't know much about the over active. You may want to find a doc that specializes in endocrinology (I think thats right). I'm sure with proper medication you should be able to get back on track though it may take some time. Thanks so much for posting and please stick around I am sure you are just a fountain of wisdom for us wls people.

Marina,

You are definitely an inspiration! I am pre-op.....just now being submitted to insurance. I am very encouraged to hear from someone who has been successful for so long. I am not at all sure what PS I may need, but probably won't have enough skin for insurance to pay. I'll probably want a boob lift.......there's just something about hanging empty boobs that doesn't sit well with me!

I am in New Orleans. Marina, do you mind if I ask who did your WLS surgery? I am going thru Touro (formerly St. Charles General) and they are all LSU doctors.

Also, for plastic surgery - anyone in my weight class (250, with a 140 goal) with no/little loose skin?

Lizard, You say you have an underactive thyroid. That is what I have. What medication are you taking?

Tricky, I am in Shreveport. I used Dr Jones who 10 years ago was the only doctor doing the RNY and he still only does the open. There are now several doctors here that offer the lap version.

I also started at about your weight (245) and went to 140 for a long time. I have only lost the additional weight in the last year since being diagnosed hypothyroid. I did not have a lot of loose skin but there was the usual pooch of tummy and saggy breasts. Insurance didn't cover anything for me.

Marty, of all the plastic surgery procedures the breast lift is by far my favorite. I didn't lose any of my size but now they are back where they belong! Start saving your pennies!

Thanks for the reply. Glad to see other Louisianans on here. It's wonderful to see you have had a good long term result.

Started at 239 and now hanging out at 115 with a lot of loose skin. The PS surgeons say I have pretty good elasticity, but I can still see the hanging skin in my legs and arms and everywhere. My TT took away the pouch of skin from my 3 kids and being Fat, but everywhere else I have loose skin. Kinda gross...like a sack of bones with hanging skin. Icky

If I may ask, did you have a thigh lift and if so were you pleased with the results?

Dale,

I did not have a thigh lift...yet. If my thighs don't tighten up by this time next year I am going to a PS to see about one. I am scared of the scar though. I also have loose skin under my arms (just in my armpits) and I may need a tuck there too. I really hate to add new scars since I had open RNY and the TT I will look like a jigsaw puzzle!
