Default Ps & WLS etc...

Sindi,
Gaining back 12#'s is not much. You can swell that much in fluid alone. Because of the GB you will be able to lose it very quickly. Just go low carb and watch it fall off. If you still have your PS garments they will help to push the excess fluid off even faster. Anytime I feel swollen, I put on my PS garments overnight and the next morning all the swelling is gone.

I have had TT (with hernia repair), BL, and Lipo of arms, legs and tummy again. I have lost weight again and I think I will end up needing another TT since I now have loose skin again. I didn't have a thigh lift the first time just lipo of some pockets of fat on my inner and outer thighs but now that I have lost more weight, I have sagging skin on my legs too. I paid so much for the PS the first time (no insurance coverage on any of it) that I really don't have the money to start over again yet but I am saving up.

I am going to wait until next year and see what size I end up and if any of this skin will shrink. Because I just had lipo in March maybe it hasn't been long enough (sometimes the skin will continue to shrink for up to a year). I look great in my clothes but I would not dare wear shorts or a swimsuit because of the loose skin. I started in a size 24 then had the WLS and went to a size 12. After PS I was in 8's and 10's and now I am wearing 5's and 7's.

Because of my thyroid condition, I had necrosis after my TT and the scar still needs to be revised also. I cannot believe how much surgery I have had to endure to put this poor old body back into shape!! LOL

I have loose skin on my back also but I have not seen anything about a back lift before. I am not sure they do them here (in Louisiana). Is there a website with info on this procedure? My tummy is so scarred up maybe the doctor could just stretch my skin from my back around and across my front and leave me one nice seam on my side!! LOL

Tracy,
29#'s means you are just about there!!! Wait until you are truly the size you want to stay so you won't be like me and have to pay for PS twice. You can start calling around and getting consults though. Sometimes it takes a while to get in to see one of the good doctors and if they are going to fight your insurance company for you it may take even longer. My insurance didn't cover any of it but it was still worth it to get rid of all that excess flab and to put things back where God intended them to be. I just wish I had known I was going to lose more and I would have waited.

For some people those last few pounds are the hardest but just keep the carbs down and your spirits up and it will be no time at all. Don't forget your vitamins because if you are going to have PS you need to be strong and healthy so that your recovery will be fast.

Misty,
I will be watching for your posts as you get closer to your surgery. I know that you will be nervous but don't be. Make up your mind that this is what you want and go for it. Start your vitamins and extra protein now for a speedy recovery (extra protein will help you not lose so much hair during recovery!)

Bridget, Nelle,Jeanie,
I have been through a lot of ups and downs since my surgery 10 years ago and if I can help any of you I will. Only those of us who have had this type of surgery can know what it is like but a lot of others (who have never had a weight problem) are very quick to try to tell us what to do. It is not the "easy" way out and I wish that I had never been big to start with but thank God there is a way for us to get our lives back and I do not regret having this surgery.

Default So glad you posted

You are just what I was needing to hear!!! I have never heard of anyone more than two years or so out, but I've heard ALL the rumors of gaining the weight back. I am so relieved to read your posts and hear what I hoped and suspected was true about long termers! Thank you!!! I am determined to follow your example and my fears are stomped out about it being near imposible.

botchy, wow! you are below your goal too! Way to go!! The hard part is over so now just enjoy your new body. This surgery is getting more attention now than when I had it done and I am really glad. Everyone really gave me a hard time about it but I was very determined (and still am). I'm glad to know someone else from Louisiana!

Once you train your body not to rely on carbs as fuel you can eat some carbs without too much trouble but carbs make our bodies hold onto fluid and actually make us hungrier by lowering blood sugar.

I don't eat any kind of ice cream, cake, or regular sodas ever. I do drink diet coke but only after the first year. At first the carbonation caused me pain. I will still get some pain if I drink something that is too cold too quickly (like iced tea on a hot day...sometimes I just gulp it down too fast and I get cramps).

By the way, I still weigh myself every day. Before I started losing weight again because of my thyroid, I would always watch my eating more closely if I gained even 2#'s.

Anyone had plastic surgery yet?

Marina

I had a TT with the hernia repair and am going back in this Thursday to repair the mesh that is popping out. I am also getting my belly button revised due to loss of blood supply.

I had liposuction from the waist down...31 holes back in 1998 and that was a ver rough and painful surgery.

Thumbs up Wow!

10 years out! Welcome to the best place on Earth! I really appreciate the fact that you are 10 years out and have been able to keep the weight off! That is so comforting to hear.

I had a tummy tuck and inner thigh lift. I was supposed to have a total bodylift but encountered insurance problems 2 days before surgery.

My insuarance carrier Blue Cross paid for my Tummy Tuck and Thigh lift. I had it done when I was 9 months post op WLS, I reached goal at 7 months and have stayed the same weight since then.

I definitely need more work done on my behind and outter thighs... disgusting that my butt ends just behind my knees! But like you, I am a little tired of having surgery, so I am holding off for as long as possible. I would love to get the boobs done! That I will have to pay for on my own, which is all good, I dont mind doing that at all.

How much does WLS cost anyway?? I got my 1 visit packet today and I was filling it out. I have to have proof of medically supervised weight loss. I have 30 years of weight gain shouldn't that count? hehe. I was looking into self pay if insurance won't.

Anywhere between 30K and 40K. Good luck with insurance!
