Question 1 1/2 years or more out

Are any of bummed at all that the honeymoon is over, you are able to maintain, everyone you know has seen the new you or at least heard about it..... I was sitting here thinking about that today... I feel as though as far as the WLS procedure and routines, Im pretty much out of the loop and just another ordinary person..... I have reached all my milestones, plastic surgery n stuff.

I must say I still get very excited for everyone when they reach new milestones, goal, get approved, etc... it makes me remember when I had those feelings and how jazzed I was.

Do any of you that are long termers feel the same way... how do you handle it... are you starting to feel ordinary too?

Just a thought. Talk to ya soon.

Hello Bridgetgirl,

I feel so ordinary that it stinks. Gone are the days when I felt joy each and everyday. The simple fact is I still feel fat and need to lose weight but I am seriously hungry. I know I need something but I can't quite figure out what it is. Hang in there, I certainly will try but these spareribs have got my name on them for dinner. Bye-Bye! I'm sooo crazy!

Reginald.

I still feel as though I need to lose weight too, I guess I am just use to having that feeling as I have been big my whole life. I told a friend last night that I was still trying to lose another 10 pounds, I was told how crazy of an idea that was, and how that I would be way TOO thin.. that Im really skinny now. I still cant see really skinny... feel curvy.

I am glad Im not alone on this Reg. Was when your surgery?

Hey Bridge,

I get what you are saying. For me the honeymoon phase of not having a success in regards to weight loss all of the time is sometimes depressing. I used to rely on the goals as bridges. Once my weight stabalized I realized that I really needed to work harder to try to keep the weight where I wanted it, something I don't think I was ever expecting. (silly me) For me I became just another person of average build right away since I moved away from my home town not to long after surgery. I think sometimes I am still amazed when I react because of my WLS such as a dumping episode or having my tummy feel tight because I over did it.

About a year ago I knew I really needed to put my excitement of little goals into something else, so I started the weight and strength training part. I've tried to replace those successes with gains in the gym, but they are far and fewer in between of the honeymoon phase. (and imo much more difficult to achieve)
So I am right there with you babe, I miss the honeymoon and try to recapture it with the other things in my life. Although I have to say that WE are absolutely, positively anything but ORDINARY!

Thumbs up Bridget

I KNOW THAT THIS DOESNT APPLY TO ME, BUT I THOUGHT I SHOULD LET YOU KNOW HOW EXTRODINARY (SP) YOU ARE. NOT ONLY HAVE YOU REACHED ALL OF YOUR GOALS, BUT YOU ARE A CONSTANT SUPPORT AND A SOURCE OF ENCOURAGEMENT TO ALL OF US WHO HAVEDNT MADE IT THERE YET AND THOSE WHO HAVE. YOU HAVE HELPED ME IN MORE WAYS THAN YOU WILL EVER KNOW AND I HAVENT EVEN MET YOU FACE TO FACE. YOU KNOW WHERE YOU HAVE BEEN AND WHAT YOU HAVE BEEN THROUGH TO GET WHERE YOU ARE, AND I WANT YOU TO KNOW THAT YOU CAN NEVER JUST BE ORDINARY. YOU HAVE LIVED A LIFE THAT ORDINARY PEOPLE WILL NEVER KNOW OR UNDERSTAND AND YOU HAVE THE COMPASSION FOR PEOPLE IN BOTH SITUATIONS (FAT OR SKINNY) BECAUSE YOU HAVE EXPERIENCED BOTH AND THAT MAKES YOU SPECIAL AND PUTS YOU IN A CLASS ALL YOUR OWN. SO GIRL HOLD YOU HEAD UP HIGH AND KNOW THAT TO THE PEOPLE ON THIS FORUM AND WHO LOVE YOU, WILL NEVER JUST THINK OF YOU AS ORDINARY. BESIDES YOU STILL HAVE THAT KICK A$$ FAT GIRL PERSONALITY!!! AND NO ONE BUT US STAPLERS UNDERSTAND THAT.

Thanks Kristen, thats a really good way of looking at things. Perhaps I too can make goals at the gym, 1.) like get those Tina Turner/Angela Bassett/Madoona killer looking arms that I want. 2.) 6 pack abs, see how long it can take me to do 100 crunches.....
3.) Finally get up on that damn surfboard!

Good looking out kid.... thanks for the tips!

Hey Bridge,

Another thing that I've noticed about being so far out is that sometimes I forget that hey I had WLS. I mean lots of things just are normal now. In regards to food etc. So being here on the forum has totally helped me out, in that it reminds me that I have to remember to think like a WLS patient. It helps to keep me on goal, and reminds me to not make so many mistakes.

Go for those arms babe, I remember the first time I felt my bicep, I was like hey what the Heck is that, it's hard.... Then I remembered oh yeah that's a muscle!

Hello Bridgetgirl,

I must say that I love all of the ladies in this forum because you make me feel so special even when I feel I'm not, which is most of the time. My weight loss surgery was in May of 2001, performed at Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center in Fountain Valley, by Dr. Peter LePort's staff physician Dr. Philip L. Chin, M.D. Look, I am truly amazed at your progress and how beautiful you are. Bridget, take this world by storm and be all that you want to be. You go, girlllllllll!

Sincerely,

Reginald.

Default Normal

I'm feeling pretty normal too (not that I mind!). Actually I'm feeling better than normal and it's been the gym for me too! Who wants to be skinny when you can be thin AND toned. Ciara is my new model and that leaves me with many more milestones ahead!!! Slow but sure increases in my stamina and streath in the gym and on the track really keeps me going girl!!!
