The other day at work, I was trying to find a comfy, padded chair to sit in. I was muttering to myself about how I needed a comfy seat. One of the gals, who is new to the company asked my why, am i losing weight? I was shocked! I said, uh, I've lost 115lbs, my butt is bony! She was just amazed and asked how. I said, Didn't you know? I've had the bypass surgery. She of course didn't know. I responded, Wow, I though everyone knew since that's all I hear people talk about me. To which a guy in the corner said, Marie (oops, Monique ), now that's narscissitic!

The further out you get, the more normal you appear to everyone. Eventually, you'll have a ton of people that have no clue about the amazing transformation we've just went through.

Thumbs up

I must post! I simply must! What on this freakin earth ever, I mean ever made you feel like you were ordinary?!?! Any of you?!?! First of all, there is nothing wrong with being ordinary. But the only ordinary people I have ever known, plod along through life, never feeling, never growing, never learning, never sharing. All of you, especially the ones I know on a personal level... are absolutley without a doubt, the most amazing group of women I have ever known. You all are like my sisters. I love my sister, I can talk to her about anything! I can talk to her about farting, or my husband, or my kids, or my crockpot cooking, or a pimple on my ass, and she will listen, and laugh, and respond. I can go to her for advice, and even when she doesn't have the answer she makes it all better. She gives me encouragment when I feel the walls closing in. She makes me smile, when two minutes before I was hysterically crying. She makes me sure of myself, and proud to be myself. She makes me proud to know her, and feel so blessed to have her in my life. YOU ALL DO THOSE SAME THINGS FOR ME! I know how far you have come, the trials, and tribulations, and the amount of work it took to get where you are. That is no samll feat! But your worth, your worth as human beings, your worth as women, does not lie in your WLS, it does not lie in the weight you have lost, the food you ate that day, or the loose skin on your bootie! Your worth lies in the impact you have made on those around you. And I for one have been so impacted by you lovely people, I will never, never be the same again. And for that... I am truley grateful.

Thumbs up Life is Different Now

Bridget:

I'm at about the same place in my WLS journey as you are. I agree that the adrenaline-filled "exciting" times are past.

During my weight loss phase, it was all grand, new and terribly exciting. I was the incredible shrinking woman...I received accolades constantly...I reached new milestones frequently.

Now things are different. I've reached my goal. People are beginning to get used to the "new" me. There are very few gasps of awe and "oh my's" these days.

Where I think we differ in our perspective is that I am quite a bit older than you and I had a multitude of serious health problems when I started. Today, all of those health problems are gone. I am at an age where recouping my good health has had a tremendous impact on me. I am SOOOOO grateful for my WLS and the years it has obviously added to my life. It makes every day a special day.

Today I start my day, up at 5:30 a.m. to walk my little dog. (I never used to walk the dog. I was too heavy and tired to get up and do it. I barely dragged myself out of bed at 7:00 a.m.) While walking with the morning sunrise, I have the most wonderful experiences. I enjoy the world around me, quiet and beautiful. I deep breathe the fresh crisp morning air with renewed energy and awe. I thank God every morning for another healthy day.

At 6:00 a.m. every weekday morning, I meet Melanie for our 2.5 mile walk. (I NEVER exercised regularly in my life. High school gym class was it and I hated that.) We chat while we walk and enjoy our morning Starbucks. By the time I return home at 6:45 a.m., I have a head start on the day. I am energized, renewed and ready to take on the day. It's an exhilirating experience EVERY DAY. I am literally a new person.

I realize that I am fortunate that I don't have children to care for in the mornings. But you can still take a small part of your morning JUST FOR YOU, to get a head start on your day. Set your alarm clock for even 15 minutes earlier in the mornings to take a walk by yourself. It might give you the same wonderful gift as I have been given--a great perspective on the day and a great attitude. Try it for seven days straight and see if it makes a difference for you.

You know I love you and I think you're doing a great job. I just thought you might be interested in a little idea to help you "love you" a little more.

Thanks Dara. Life for me is totally different for me now as well. My thing is learning to surf.. I would have never attempted to do that before WLS, and camping too..... I run up the stairs in buildings now.. why? Just because I can. Like I said I do have my milestones, I think I just lost sight of them.

Also, getting as sick as I did after surgery really pushed me into stopiing and smelling the roses. I am never rush anywhere.. as many of you know.. lol I really do notice the beautiful things, and smile and say hi to strangers more often than I ever did MO. Life is beautiful, and I really appreciate my new life.

Thanks for your wisdom, as I awoke this morning I couldnt help but think how beautiful it was thins morning, the last day of spring.... it felt like I woke at 10 am not 7, it ws bright, warm and beautiful outside, i wish I would have embraced it by talking that walk... by doing that perhaps I will discover MORE milestones..... I think Isaiah will be up for it too. Thanks for the virtual hug, love ya!

Red face

I'm so glad I found this site. I am feeling the same way and I could not pinpoint what I was feeling. I haven't lost anything in about 2 months and feel the honeymoon is over and I have not yet met my goal.

It's great to read about other people's feeling and thoughts and see your not far from them.

Thanks.

That's funny that your title is no way Jose that's my husbands name. I've actually learn more in the few weeks of reading postings than in other sites or my doctor's office. What's wierd about my doctor's office is that they never followed up with me at 6 months or 1 year (must be very busy). I followed up with my PCP when I went in for my yearly physical. I've decided to get on the wagon and start exercising this evening to see if I can push myself to my personal goal.

Thanks to all for your support.
