Default 5 Day Pouch Test...eh...

I started the 5-day pouch test on Monday, after reading everything on the website Surgical Weight Loss 5 Day Pouch Test and reading posts about it here. I also ordered the new book but haven't received it yet. It was ROUGH!!!! I'm almost 3 years out, and have really let my eating get out of hand over the past several months.

Maybe I'm unusual, but it was not simple like the site claims - it was as hard as if I'd never had gastric bypass. I also have had more moments where I feel extreme hunger than a feeling of satiety. And that's with consuming 98-104 grams of protein a day, drinking over 64 oz. of water, and keeping myself as distracted as possible.

I'm on day 5 now and can tell a little bit of a difference. I have not lost any weight (yet), but I dumped big-time for the first time since before I got pregnant in December of 06! I got a protein shake at the mall and didn't consider how much sugar was in it...a little while later I was rushing out of Macy's with sweat dripping off of me and felt super dizzy.

I hope that this will get a little easier and start to show some physical results. I'm bound to lose weight if I keep eating only healthy foods and slam water and protein drinks like I'm doing now. I am just spoiled from the surgery - the pounds melted away on a daily basis. I keep expecting that to happen now. I should know better!

Just keep in mind if you do the 5-day pouch test...it is ROUGH and FRUSTRATING and JUST AS DIFFICULT as any other diet. I have more willpower thanks to seeing myself lose weight before and knowing how good it feels to be "skinny." I hope I see some results soon.

Good for you Bama!
And whilst the result may not be as spectacular as you may have wished, what is really, really great is that you have actually taken control of yourself again! Well done for the mere effort! I'm sure with this kickstart you will be far more "aware" of your eating plan and have a better orientation. No, I doubt indeed your weight loss will be as "spectacular" as during the honeymoon phase, BUT, it is definitely steps in the right direction! Think of how much better you'll feel by Thanksgiving and even Christmas. Think of a "new" outfit for New Year's Eve!
Way to go! Thanks for the realistic warning!
Cheers,
Vim

i've done it a few times and YES it works if you are sticking to it. but the purpose of it is not for weight loss its to get your pouch back to a small non carb craving pouch. I'm so sorry for your weight gain but if you re commit yourself to the rules of the tool you will loose again

Thanks for the info. I've been thinking about doing it as well, even though I'm less than 6 months out. I've been developing some bad habits that need nipped in the bud. I was initially thinking of starting it tomorrow, so I could do the 2 "liquid" days during the weekend when I was home. However, Aunt Flo came to visit today, and I've decided that this is definitely not the best weekend to start the 5DPT.

Even though you found it hard, I hope it helps you get back on track. Good luck!

Hi ladies! I posted in the emotional support forum earlier today, as I am in a pretty deep depression over the bad eating habits I've already developed after being only 8 months out. I didn't think it would happen this early, but I can eat ANYTHING I want and I didn't think I would be able to do that after having this surgery. True, I can't eat a lot, but I can literally eat anything. I keep thinking that at 8 months out, I should still be in a bit of a "honeymoon weight loss" phase, but I guess not because I've only lost 55 lbs and haven't lost a THING in a month. I'm so disappointed in myself. I need to kick it into gear so I guess I'll be trying the 5-day pouch test this weekend. I'm NOT looking forward to it, as I have NOTHING to keep me busy or distracted. UGH!!!!
Wish me luck...

~M~
