I guess if he could eat a 21 oz prime rib pre-op then it would be ok. lol

I am 3 years out, and have been unable to attain my goal weight. I started out at 321 and after an abdominal surgery to take 11 lbs of excess fat and loose skin off, I'm still at 212. Can't seem to lose to goal weight of at least 160. I have always been able to eat more than 3 or 4 ounces of food, can't eat like the guy who can eat 16 ozs of prime rib, but can eat salad, bread, and and a 6oz steak with no problems. I do water aerobics because of acute osteoarthritis instead of walking, so I guess that's not enough exercise, so I'm almost back to where I started in terms of being unable to stay on any "diet to lose 65-70 lbs I need to have off.
Water loading is okay, but I know I must be taking in too many calories again!!! Any positive suggestions will be appreciated!

Help!
I too had my surgery two years ago. This past March I joined a gym, and I gained 10 pounds. I have since gained about 5 more. I am REALLY freaking out. Due to lapse in insurance, I wasn't able to keep seeing my doctor. I just saw him yesterday and he thinks the weight gain is due to too many carbs. Is it normal to gain some weight back? I find myself constantly thinking about food, and crave a lot of sugar, and carbs. I don't know what to do.

Carbs
what i have found for myself, past and present. If i let myself eat "cocaine food" (white food - bread, rice, tortillas, etc), i will continue to "crave" it. It only takes a few days without these foods before the body stops wanting them. It's your choice, you made a huge committment when you got youself into this. You may need to attend OA meetings, seek therapy, assess your triggers - WHATEVER it takes YOU ARE WORTH IT! Get out you pre photos and remember the pain - Good luck to you both.

Great feedback Cherie!
Okay Zenobia: hva eyou had an ultrasound to determine that everything is okay with your pouch? Did you ever get ulcers post operstively or anything like that? Do you think it may have opened, allowing you to eat so much?
Crabella: (and Zenobia) Going to OA is a very good suggestions. If your weightloss means alot to you, make it a priority and make the time to go to a meeting. You wont regret it.
Its time to get back to basics. Measure and weigh your food. Only eat what you are supposed to. Its time to get out of the "eating til your full" mentality. I know how hard it is... but try this. Put food on your plate and then eat 1/2 of it. Small steps. Post here what you eat each day, it helps to see what ou are eating. Then people will give you feedback on where to substitute and what to substitue for the bad stuff your eating.
Cherie: I really like that tern.. cocaine food.... the white stuff. Stay away from it!

Thanks bridgetgirl, no I have not thought to ask for an ultrasound to see if there's a problem with my pouch. I did have one hernia, and was told that I now have another which may require surgery to fix. I was thinking of asking to see if I qualify for a revision as well as a hernia repair.

I think for any of us to believe that we have lost all of our weight forever would be a mistake. Everything I have read to date on surgery and success rates show that most if not all WLS patients tend to gain back 10-15 lbs two or more years after surgery.. this puts you at normal. Now those who are not "normal" are the ones who gain it back within the first year or so, those are the ones that will more than likely fail at this surgery if they don't get a hold on thier situations. I don't think I know anyone personally who fits this bill so I hope that nobody gets their feathers rattled. I am just saying this is what I have found through all the research I have done. I am extremely bony right now and actually it makes me sick, however I know that I am about a year away from gaining back those 10-15 lbs to make me look healthy again and I am personally excited about that.. since I can't seem to gain it any other way.. argh!!! Don't fret, I think you're doing fine.

Patty,
Hi there I just now saw all these posts becuase I was out and about the last few days. A close friend of mine just had the bypass Wed and I was her main support. Rain had mentioned you to me before when she noticed I was from Ohio. Not only am I from Ohio, I am having the surgery next week with the same Dr you used. From what I hear he is the best! But, I also live very close to you. I don't think she mentioned your specific location, only that you used the same Dr. My info all says Akron, but I technically live in Coventry Township and use an Akron postal address. You are probably within 5 min of me!! I'd love to meet sometime. You will have my friend and I as local support if you want.........warning........we are a little quirky. lol I would be happy to walk and exercise when I get home and able to. Let me know if you want to get in contact.

Oh no, you guys/girls are scaring me. Ithought that I would never gain this weight back again? I really hope I dont come to a stand still, I am three weeks out and I am able to eat a little steak, fish, some spagetti, a little cheese burger and I havent really had any problems. I have not had any sweets as I am really scared to DUMP but I really dont want to go through all this only to find out I can cheat and gain the weight back, this is the reason I did not go with the band as I was told you can cheat on the band. I wanted something that would keep me from cheating as in make me sick if I did.

Hey Ray,
I hear you.........that's one of the main reasons I decided against the band also. But yes, you CAN gain weight on any of the surgeries. Basically, drinking while eating, grazing, and high calorie/fat foods and drinks can all do it. I'm only a few days post-op right now, so not sure how I can effectively balance it. Our doc has us still on puree 3 weeks out.........and prefer we wait 6 months for steak. This surgery is a tool, but we still got lots of work to do....sigh. It is definitelt not the easy way out.
