Default Did She REALLY Say That???

Recently I had an appointment with my GBS surgeon for a consult for gallbladder surgery (finally). The nurse called me back in to an additional waiting room where you get weighed and you wait to get put into a room to see the doctor. In this room they also play the pre-op video explaining the procedure to patients & their family. There was about 5 other pre-op ladies in there and of course they were checking me out up & down. This one snobby broad looks at me and snarls "and EXACTLY what are YOU here for? You aren't fat???"

Excuse me??? Here I am turning around to see who she is bitching at & I realize that it is me! Huh??? Me??? After I regained my composure I firmly stated "Honey...I have been where you are. I am more than 2 years out & I can definately understand your mood swings".

I have never in a million years have thought that I would have been on the receiving end of "skinny envy". How cool is that???

After 25 months...I just may have finally arrived at the mind set that I am not the fat girl anymore. Yee-HAAWWWW!!!

Hey I hear ya. I deliberately avoid going to my WLS-been years now (I know, I know) because I get inundated by pre-ops or recent patients that can't believe I am there at a WLS office.
Sometimes it's great and I encourage. Other times I just bury my nose in a book or wait outside. Strange.

LOL at your reply!

When I was at the pre-op class a woman came in who was 2 yrs out and she looked FABULOUS (like she has always been thin). We were all kind of in awe of her and asked her tons of questions... I just hope she didn't feel too overwhelmed as a wls rock star to us

cool and *sorry* for the snotty woman

I guess we just have to remember that bitches can be bitches no matter what weight they are! I have to laugh when I get told that I don't understand, or why do you have to worry about what you eat, blah, blah, blah. It's weird being on the other side. I always have a before picture with me. I pull it out and show them, telling them I've been where they are and know exactly how they feel. Their faces are priceless. My favorite is...you eat all day long so how do you stay so thin? Never in a million years did I ever think I'd hear that one. I eat every 3 hours and I work out everyday at least once, some days twice a day. Sue
