Default Need to gain back a few pounds

I've noticed a few of us on here have had the new challenge of needing to gain a few pounds and I'd like to know who you are and how you've successfully gained a few pounds.

I'm concerned because my "good" weight is 145. I had a family tragedy a couple years ago and wasted away to 115. It was horrible. I regained it but it was a long time ago and it took awhile. I don't want to get even close to that again, but now I'm 130. Too skinny (according to every single friggin person that knows me) and I'd like to put back on 10 lbs.

I have only gone UP (to 165) since my total weight loss, but I took it off easily by modifying portions (and quitting beer!) This should be just as easy right? But there's a part of me that's afraid if I start to TRY to put on weight that I'll get fat again (yes, silly I know, but it's one of those kind of fears we all deal with eh?)

So I've started the protein powder, Atkins bars, and continuing with the right healthy food choices. I never eat junk food - except for drinking Coke - I just eat healthy. With very little appetite and it's been over five years post-op.

I'm concerned that this is happening again. I've had a lot of busy stress, emotional stuff, etc. I've had very little appetite and too busy to eat (changing that already), but as I purposely eat more I notice I AM getting hungrier and can eat more. Scares me. Ugh. That never-ending fear of getting fat again huh?

So any voices of experience or suggestions (aside from the ones I've already started) will be really great to hear.

Thanks

Default Gaining Weight

Hi,

I had some complications after my surgery and lost ALL of my weight in less than a year. I was actually too thin for my frame and needed to gain some weight. I added peanut butter to my diet. Also, when I got pregnant only 16 months out, I had to gain some weight because I was losing during the pregnancy. I added more peanut butter. 2 to 3 tablespoons a day will do the trick...AND you are adding tons of protein. Cheese is also another way that I used to gain.

Good luck!

Always have a protein bar with you so that if you are too busy, there is no excuse. gaining weight can be done by increasing your carbs a little bit to a more tolerable level. be sure to remain hydrated by drinking your water, and I sure hope you are still taking your vitamins

I'm dealing with this same issue and have been for about a year now. It's about 10 lbs and I have to fight to keep it. Not a bad problem, compared to the alternative, but I hate hearing "you're too skinny!" all the time.

The advice here is to reverse the Pouch Rules for Dummies. I snack between meals quite a bit. Popcorn, peanut butter, cheese, crackers, etc. We have to be careful not to let that get a way from us though! When I was losing, I weighed myself once a week at the most. Now, while trying to gain, I weight myself about every other day. I just don't want my snacking to become a bad habit and suddenly, I pack on too much weight. I think this is key for us!

Good luck to you and let us know how it's going!

Excellent tip on peanut butter, never thought of that, and I can add crackers for extra carbs (as another reply suggested).
And yes, I always have the bars with me now, been on this track for a week now but not putting anything on (yet). Thank you for the reassurance on that one, and already doing it. Hard to find ones that are palatable! Atkins ones like rice krispies are easy to eat!
I've added a protein powder daily for a couple hundred calories. Along with a fiber powder, I think I can actually feel it already. Strange.
Yes, drinking lots of water
Vitamins? Yes check
Cheese is my diet staple - so thank you for the reassurance I'm doing one of the things already.
The frequent snacking thing is just impossible for me. One of those things that I've just completely left behind along the WL journey, but I do try to add macadamia nuts or almonds every day as a snack.
The problem is that I know I used to eat like a monster, and it's frustrating to not have control over GAINING weight now. I guess that sounds lame to some who are fighting to LOSE those last 10 lbs., but it's my reality (and others too it would seem huh?)

ok...I'm on the right track, and I have a f/u question. What carbs can I possibly add that aren't like gum in my gut? Most breads, rices are hard to handle. Crackers are about it. Chow mein noodles work...any other carb suggestions?

I don't want to pack on FAT, it goes right to my gut where the loose skin is. I want to put some meat on my bones all over Will peanut butter do that without giving me the rolls on the gut?

Yup as CICi said reverse Weightloss for Dummies rules!

10 pounds makes a really big difference on a small person, how long have you been wanting to put on 10? Do YOU think you are too skinny? I used to hear it all the time, you are too thin. It looks like you have lost more weight. Etc., etc. Im me, and I like to indulge every now and again, on beer, candy, snickerdoodles..... so I like the buffer I have to enjoy those things without worry. Do what YOU want, and ignore the comments.

Yeah, I think I'm too scrawny. I'm afraid of putting on weight in the area it always goes: gut. Yes, at 130 I have no fat rolls.
But my face doesn't look healthy and my collarbone, chest looks scrawny. So I do want to gain a few.
Those pounds disappeared when I added school to my full plate of work, single mom and dealing with chronic pain and going though a drawn out breakup that we tried to make work but I'm not willing to keep trying to make into anything other than a friendship.
One day I just realized I was too thin. So my key goal is to gain it and round out a bit more womanly. Besides, I haven't had post-op plastics, so the loose skin looks TERRIBLE when you lose a few pounds. I think THAT is what bothers me the most. Yeah, people's comments are annoying, because I like being slim. But I'd like that body that felt good. Not so bony
Plus I'm afraid of wasting away to that dreaded 114 I will never forget!

Unhappy Too skinny in Ohio

I have spent hours trying to find information on people like me who have lost too much weight post roux-en-y. I had the surgery on July 31 of 2006 at a weight of 216. I am now struggling to maintain 98 lbs. I try to eat, don't limit calories but can't seem to either keep weight on or regain some of what I have lost. Anybody out there have any ideas?
