Default Gastric Bypass and Chemotherapy

Hi,

My mum had very successful gastric bypass surgery a few years ago and has now, sadly, developed breast cancer. The cancer has been removed and was quite large and grade three but it has not spread to the lymph nodes. However, becuase it is the most agressive form of cancer the doctors are considering chemotheraphy. Does anyone have any information about chemotherapy and gastric bypass.

My medical understanding is limited at best but I have heard that chemo causes sickness and nausea by irritating the stomach lining - will she be feel these effects more becuase of the gastric bypass.

Any experiences gratefully received.

I'm afraid I don't have any real information on this. I would talk to your Mum's Oncologist who would probably have better insight on the situation. Also a bariatric surgeon should also have more information.

I'm sure you are relieved to hear that the cancer hasn't spread to her lymph system but this has to be a very frightening time for all of you. I'm sure your Mum appreciates you trying to find out information for her.

You'll be in my thoughts.

I have no knowledge on this either. I just wanted to say that I am sorry to hear about your mum. My father has had cancer 6 times now. Yes I said 6. It metstasized through his body. He did get very sick. I am not telling you to scare you, I am telling you this becuase they give him a pill called Amend and that helps him ALOT. It helps him not get sick. I am having my surgery this tues. and they gave me the same pill to take before surgery. Hope this helps.
