Have you ever been NORMAL?
I have made some interesting observations in my two years here...and was wondering if I could back it up with cold hard facts. Curiosty has gotten the best of me...

I have additional poll questions that relate to this one....I think the answers we have will give us a little insight as to who we are, and what types of things we are all dealing with....bear with me....

I like this poll, interested in what it will show. I was just telling someone yesterday that I could always get to a healthy weight but never maintain it for long.

What is normal?
Shopping in any old store? Vague memories of that
Not feeling like the biggest person in the room? Hm... can't remember that either...
But then again --- does anyone really feel NORMAL? Each of us is unique... and most likely each of us feels out of place for one reason or another (Too tall, too short, hair is to frizzy, nose too big, boney elbows... you get the idea)...
Other than the PHYSICAL "Normal" - there is also the MENTAL "normal..." and we're each unique there as well...
I don't think NORMAL exists... unless it can be described in a broad range of "standards!"
Now my head hurts... Don't make me think so hard Zen!!!! It's not normal!

"Normal" meaning a healthy weight / BMI for YOU! The american Average weight at my height is 160. THE medical standard is 130. To put this in perspective...My NORMAL weight would be anywhere between 160-130. Does that help break it down for ya? Hopefully you won't have to think so much now.....Just wait until I has the rest of the questions. They get harder!!

I was a 7 month preemie and weighed in at a grand 2lb 9oz.
At some stage during my first year, I must have made it to the "normal" range but I know from pictures that by the time I was 18 months old, I was chubby and that's how I remained.
I guess I was obese right through to my late-40's but I only kept out of the morbid status through constant yo-yo dieting. I then kinda gave up and ended up at 260lb.

Always been pudgy, at the very least. I tell people that the original baby fat is still here some where, and when I get down to it I am going to look disgustingly young and healthy!
Interesting poll, Zen!

Ah, didn't know this was going to be a quiz...
I thought we were talking the "feeling" normal thing... not fitting into the charts thing!

Never Obese until 3 years before surgery
Thanks Zen. This is very interesting. As I was always "normal" until 3-4 years before my surgery.
To make a long story short. I was always thin growing up, normal BMI until I had my first daughter when I was 19 years old, I went from 135lbs to 216lbs while pregnant, I was very sick my pregnancy had toxemia, gest. diabetes and such. After her delivery I had lost all but about 30-40lbs from my original weight. Poof pregnant again now with an extra 30-40lbs only gained about 60lbs with my son lost about 20lbs but by this point I was about 50-60lbs overweight still not that bad then 3 years later I got pregnant with my last daughter and only gained about 45lbs lost nearly none of that weight so I was up to about 75lbs overweight then after one year I was diagnosed with cancer and was put on predisone and with raditation and chemo I gained about another 40-50lbs so now I was about 125lbs over weight then after all that I developed severe anxiety and was put on anxiety medication and with not leaving the house and the combo of meds somewhere I gained some more weight and as you can see from those rough figures I became obese somewhere. I stayed that way for roughly 3 years and could not move that weight and I was getting more and more depressed and I had a family history of obesity as I have said in other posts my father was almost 500lbs when he passed away and I refused to die the way he did so decided to have the surgery while I was still young enough and healthy enough and start living again. I think I made the right decision for me, but I do believe people need to consider everything when making the decision as I have had a hard time maintaing my weight, I lost my weight super quick and became extremely thin very quickly and most people I have talked with said it was probably because I was only obese that short amount of time and my body just went back to normal but it was scary for me for some time not being able to eat well and watching myself vanish.
Thats my little story!

I was a huge baby (9lb1oz) and after puberty was never "thin" but I was a high level athlete so very in-shape. I often played 2 or 3 sports at time during the year and have 2 black belts in martial arts. I would say that I never crossed over into obesity until my early to mid-20's, and was only MO for the last 5-6 years. Entering law school, working full-time and going to school at night I stopped all my physical activity and started eating "on-the-go" which meant easy cook meals and fast food several times a week. I don't know if I'll ever be "thin"...but it's fun finding out! That thinnerself chart tells me that I'll lose 100% of my extra weight, but not sure I'll believe that until I see it. I'm very interested to see where you're going with this, Zen!
