Default How much protein???

I have researched this issue and I'm still at a loss as to what the amount should be daily for GBS patient? I'm currently eating about 100-120 a day and I can now see my nails are strong, and hair is starting to stop the thinning process or so I hope. Can anyone tell me what the amount should be.. the UNJURY web site says I only need 38 gms a day, doesn't sound like enough. Janie

My surgeon recommended 90. I'm lucky if I get 30.

Default are you having problems?

Yes I used to be lucky if I got 30 but I had to figure out a better way, and now with protein powder and smoothies I've mastered it. Curious if your labs are ok, if your hair is falling out, nails, etc.? Thanks Janie

My surgeon tells me 60 grams a day. I don't see how anyone gets 100 or more a day in with food after this surgery and stays within a decent amount of calories! I don't see how you get that much down anyway. If I had to rely just on food for it, I would have to eat all darn day! What are you guys eating to get so much in and how do you have room for other things such as fruits and veggies? I just dont see how all that can be put into one cup three times a day and one snack. I guess I need some help here. I have to use protein smoothies and this is how I get my protein in, but if I use milk and yogurt with protein powder then I could easily get 300 calories in one protein smoothie. There goes almost one third of my calories for the day. HELP! I'm really curious what everyone eats in a day. I feel like I eat too much sometimes and all I eat is protein, no veggies, or nothing else most of the time. You guys must can eat more at a time and live strictly on cheese and meat. I wonder about calories though. Do you count calories???? I've even limited my coffee intake because I use instant coffee with powdered milk for a milk base to add protein and then a little creamer and I can easily get 200 calories in a 16 oz cup of coffee just from the creamer and tons of powdered milk for protein. So basically a cup of coffee could be considered almost a meal if I'm counting calories. I'm SOOOO confused now. I remember when I didnt worry about calories and I had weight falling off. Now that I worry about them, I can't seem to lose one darn pound! Somebody help me!!!!!!!! I wish I knew if everyone counted calories. I hate those darn little things and would never count another one if I didn't have to.

My surgeon recommends 70-80g of protein a day and I almost always get that from food. If I'm a little short at the end of the day I have a few ounces of Isopure and that puts me over the goal.

Trina,

Here's what I had today so far and how it stacks up:

Breakfast: 1 egg and 1 slice of turkey bacon
Brunch: WW Smart One Roast Beef w/veggies (not all of the veggies though)
Lunch: 1oz of beef jerky and 1oz of cashews
Dinner: 3oz of carnitas and a lf, low carb tortilla
Supper: ??

According to fitday I've had 753 calories, 45 fat, 35 carbs, 62 protein

More fat than I normally have due to the cashews and carnitas in one day. I generally try to stay around 700-800 cal, 30g of fat, 35 carbs and 70+g of protein.

WOOOOAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH..................300 calories is NOT half your calories!!!!! Most woman can eat probably 1500 to 1800 to stabilize. You need to eat girl!!! Don't make me come after you!! Too low of calories maybe why you stopped losing.

My docs say 50 grams minimum of protein.......but 60-80 for a typical woman is good.

Go to ahealthyme.com and then click calorie needs calculator. It'll let you key in your info and calculate what you need to maintain or lose....AND what calories you need for your body's basic functioning.

Marty, you silly girl. I said 300 calories is 1/3 of my calories, not 1/2. hehehehe I love you too honey for trying to take such good care of me. I miss you like the dickuns! (figure of speech, I hope you have heard that one, it's a southern thang. LOL) I have increased my calories and I have actually increased the solid food intake. My ulcer med seems to be doing the trick and I have even been eating shredded roast in teenie tiny bits, but I get about half a cup or a little less down now! Chicken is still a big "iffy", but I do get it down sometimes too. Beef is always better for me I have noticed. I have discovered a new way to make the taste of a hamburger without actually "eating" the hamburger in hamburger form. I scramble lean ground beef and then put ketchup, mustand, and pickle on an open faced piece of bread and put the scrambled meat on it and the ketchup helps it to stay put and then I eat it with a fork. Man that is GOOD! I can eat about half or alittle over half of it. It's true..where there is a will, there is a way. On the other hand, I'm gonna lie and say I haven't been eating so you have to come down here!
