Default Hypoglycemia

I just wanted to say that hypoglycemia and dumping are not 100% the same thing. I was recently diagnosed with having reactive hypoglycemia, which means about 2 hours after eating (occasionally) i have episodes where my sugar drops.. i have to chart everything out and if they cant find a cause in my diet (which i dont think is the problem) they will be operating on my pancreas...

I have had hypoglycemia my entire life with no explaination why. My main concern about having GBS was how my sugars would be affected. So far (I am 2 years out) I have had no change in my sugar levels. I know that I have Reactive Hypoglycemia. If I eat more than 2 parts carb to 1 part protein my sugars will drop. I have to eat at least 3 parts protein to 1 part carbs.

As far as the low sugars is a form of dumping, I disagree. However, if I eat sugar it is part of the reaction to the carbs. If I have sugar, my sugars are out of control for the next 2 days.

Also, my sugars NEVER get higher than 110 even after eating. The key is if it is cold in the room & you start sweating...eat NOW!!! Don't have the wait & see approach. Peanut butter & orange juice are the best thing to raise sugars quickly.

Good luck!

Default Me too, me too!

First off let me say how sorry I am for you and your husband for having to go through this. I've not experienced that effect to that extent.

I have just recently been diagnosed with low blood glucose levels. (hypoglycemia). I went through the diagonisis of a seisure (mini-mauls sp?), blood work done, MRI done, EEG, more blood work, now glucose monitoring. Was told I can no longer drive, still driving. Trying to control with diet, finding it more and more difficult. Don't know what the future holds. What sucks is I feel just fine most of the time except various times after eating.

I'm battling controlling my sugar levels throughout the day. If you're interested, this is what I've found on-line so far. Low blood glucose levels may complicate gastric bypass surgery, study shows

I'll keep you posted on my progress through this.

I wish you well in your finding. God bless!

the pancreas surgery is a dangerous one and hasn't showed great promise in conrollign this according to my surgeon.

My reactive Hypo is under control for the most part..... with diet.

the surgeon pointed to an enlarged stoma as part of the problem...

Default Next course of action...

I was informed by the angel Kelly at Dr. Callery's office to immediately have an abdominal MRI to rule out the pancreas. She also gave me the name of another dr. to see besides the one I'm seeing. If you're interested and you live in San Diego, contact me.

I have a DMV appointment for them to evaluate whether I should be driving or not in April.

Totally controlling this with diet. Eating every two hours, sometimes longer, it just depends on what I'm doing.

Don't feel stable enough to do heavy exercise like I was doing. Walking feels good and about all I feel comfortable doing right now. Although, went skiing in Feb. all is good! Spring is here, surfing is near!

I wish you all well and good health! God Bless.
