Default Who else doesn't see themselves as small?

I was just wondering. I know that today I'm wearing a pair of size 4 petite cropped pants and a sized medium sweater - but I don't think I'm that small at all. I'm not trying to lose weight anymore, b/c my doctor told me not to - but I don't see it. I don't have anybody around that seems to help - it's like everyone that knows me just says LOOK AT YOU, CAN'T YOU SEE IT?? There just are not that many people that understand what I've been through. When I go to support group, a lot of the people are pre-op and they seem to think that I'm NUTS for having any size issues. (my husband and best friend say the same thing) I need a friend that understands this type of thing. I want to be able to just say what I feel without all these people feeling so darn defensive - they say things like "you are skinny now, do you just want to hear that over and over?" And "just be happy that you don't have any problems with your weight now" ARGHHHHH!! I think this is a problem.

I haven't ever been through what you are describing, but my psychologist mentioned that issue affecting some patients down the road. She said is a very real problem and it is similar to the way anorexics see themselves. She mentioned it as a caution and said to see someone if it developed. I hope you are able to get through this and admire your accomplishments!

I know what you are saying. According to the clothes that I'm no longer wearing, I am smaller. But when I look in the mirrow, nope, I really don't see it. I guess because in my mind I have only gotten half way to my goal and until I do reach it, I'm still big.

It's interesting that most women's magazines fill half the pages with recipes and the other half with ways to diet

Gosh, this makes be feel better that your psychologist talked about this issue. I tend to look at women's bodies all the time to see if I look like one of them. If I had to pick someone, I think I'd pick a size 10 or 12 person as me. And that's a great size!! I loved it last fall when I finally got into a 10, I hit a plateau there and was happy with the size. My BMI still had me in the overweight category, so I felt comfortable losing. Now, I'm a normal, but I don't fell really normal.

And a year ago, I couldn't imagine being where I am today. I just didn't imagine THIS would be an issue a year out of surgery.

Default You're not alone.

I was in 24-26's and now in 8's and 10's depends on who makes them. I still look in the mirror and think I could stand to lose another 20-25 lbs. I guess being heavy all my adult life I just have a mind set that I'm not "thin" I certainly don't see myself as thin. I know I'm not as heavy as I use to be and I look at pic's before the surgery and go wow, was that really me? I remember looking in the mirror during the first year and wondering who's that looking back. My face changed so quickly I didn't recognize myself.

You're in a 4! I don't know if I'll ever see that. I was looking at your pic last night thinking to myself look how tiny she is and how tiny her legs are. I continually ask if I'm hurting my husband's legs when I set on his lap. He tells me all the time your just a tiny woman now. So yes you are thin but I can relate to the "not seeing it"

Default I can relate

So many people call me tiny and I still don't see myself as tiny because my legs are huge and I have gargantua bones...they are so dense and heavy...so it is really hard for me to accept some times. It is when I look at photos when I really see the tiny me...and it is really hard to get used to.

Even at just 10 months out, I totally understand.

I look in the mirror and see a horribly obese person still, although in many brands I wear small shirts and size 6 pants. I don't comprehend just how different my body really is. Thank goodness for friends and family who understand that I'm not crazy and that (hopefully) this is a phase that will pass.

I think we are all in the same boat to a degree, but we have to remember that we are small and 'normal'...Technically below normal because the average American woman wears a size 14.

And BMI is a bunch of crap I think sometimes. My nutritionist said that it's almost impossible to lump every single person that is 5'3'' or whatever into one category and say they should weigh a certain something.

EXAMPLE. Me and my grandmother are both around 5'2''. I weigh 142 and she weighs 150. I am three sizes smaller than her at just an 8 pound difference. The reason? The way our bodies are shaped. At 142 I am still technically "overweight" by BMI, but my nutritionist said that if I didn't lose anymore weight, it wouldn't concern him because I'm healthy. My above average BMI doesn't bother me, because I know I'm a healthy weight for my body type.

Just my two cents/rant type thing
