I had my Open Roux-En-Y in 2001.

Can't say I have any regrets. My surgery went fine, my recovery was quick (had surgery, OPEN surgery on Tuesday...went to class on Friday).

I regained around 25 lbs of the 150+ I lost.

I can't eat ice cream (but I don't really care), I can eat chocolate in small amounts, and haven't had any health complications. I didn't have plastic surgery, I didn't really need to. (not that I'd say no to a free boob job)

I take a lot of vitamins, not much of an exerciser (I'm a computer geek), trying to ween myself off caffeine (oi, my head) and just got re-interested in WLS stuff again. (Was looking up something else entirely and stumbled upon the 5 Day Pouch test)

I'd do it again. I had more complications with a wisdom tooth extraction a few years ago than with my gastric bypass, and the wisdom tooth thing hurt more, too.

Default 5 years less 56 months

I back for the first time since my surgery. I have been attending a support group rather than spending a lot of time online in these forums.

I find real people are more reliable than online folks. I have met about 5 people who are more than 5 years out. They have no regrets.

Most WLS people I have met are in the camp of ''Why did I not do this sooner?''

BUMP while searching forums for other people's complications because I'm getting them now. Maybe someone will think twice about things when they read about potential complications...but don't we all think "it won't happen to ME!"

Default Gaining it back!

I am 5 years out. I have gained 28 pounds! I am so depressed about it. I know I can eat more than I should be able to. And I have NO dumping. I wish I did. I can eat almost anything in moderation. I know what I need to do. I just can't seem to get myself in that mind frame to DO IT!

I am 5 years out and after the initial problems I had from the surgery itself, I am doing fine. I can't eat pasta, white rice, eggs or fried foods, but pretty much ZI can eat the rest including sweets. I don't crave anything and still only need small amounts of food at a time. I have sat steady at 130 all this time, and recently put on 3lbs, which literally does have me worried and I can't seem to lose it now. I came looking for a forum to get advice and support from.
