Question Is it just us two????

Hi Guys,

My Gal Trina from the forum and myself have real problems eating solids.I am almost two years out and Trina is about 7 months out(correct me if I am wrong T-Dog)When we eat our pouches just flat out hurt thus causing us to avoid solids and rely on liquid nutrition. We both turn to protien drinks/shakes just to keep something in our pouches. We chew,chew,chew...eat so slow the food becomes cold and this is on the third bite.

I can't speak for Trina but my labs were good except my Iron was extremly low and untill I can eat meat looks like I am in for a loooonnngggg road to normal Iron levels.

So I guess on my end..I am jealous maybe even hold some resentfulness because I have been told,"It will get better, give it time"

I am so over the liquid life,I know Trina shares my frustration...Good thing we've got each other.

So any long term post-ops been there and it did get better?

BTW~I have no Galbladder problems,no ulcers, was just dialated for a stricture end of December.

Any suggestions~

Van

Gosh do I EVER know this feeling! I sit and look at food and want it SO bad and it's stuff that is healthy for me, but I know there is no way physically I can get it to my pouch! I get so tired of the struggle of trying to get something down that I just throw it away and go get a protein smoothie because I feel so hungry and is the only thing to make my pouch feel better. Sometimes it is that I can't get it down because it feels stuck, but mostly it's because my pouch just pitches a big ole fit everytime I try to eat. It pops and girgles and growls to the point I am SO uncomfortable and it makes me nauseated alot too. It hurts if I do ever eat. It is not a sharp or wrenching pain, but more like a stomach ache kind of pain that just gnaws at ya. Sometimes I try to eat and ya know that feeling you have in your throat when you need to burp and can't swallow another thing until you do? It's weird, but I have that feeling down further like more towards my pouch.... BUT I never burp. I just give it some time and not eat anything else and then I will feel popping and gurgling and then relief. The last time I was checked, my doc said I did not have a stricture and it was big enough so that shouldn't be the problem.

I have been dealing with it for so long now it seems and some days are better than others. Some days I cant eat anything solid and just feel horrible. I DREAD those days because my pouch aches all day. I have tried to be positive about it and make myself feel this is the way that everyone's pouch is, but I know it's not. I just hope it pays off for me in the end and it helps me get to goal because I can only dream of ever eating now!

There is something I worry about though. It is such a chore for me to eat that I have told my children when I get old and if I am frail and small and not able to eat to please make sure I get protein drinks so I will have something and wont starve to death. I worry I will starve to death when I get old because of how I feel with food now and it being such a full time job.

I have talked with Amy about this in PMs too because we seem to understand how each other feel and I understand when she say she almost has a resentment. I feel the same way. I am VERY happy I had the surgery, dont get me wrong. Just wish it wasn't so hard for me to deal with on a daily basis. It wears me down and I get so frustrated. I am anemic also. I have to take iron every day because I just cant get meat in. I tried deli sundried tomato shaved turkey today and it was like trying to swallow a rock! But GEEEZZZZZZZZZ the smell of it was to die for! Just wish I could eat an ounce of it!

I dont have a stricture or ulcers....but often I end up sticking to liquids or soft foods. I have leanr to simply accept that's how my life is t this moment. As long as my labs keep coming back fine....then I'm not worried. I was able to tolerate more rough and solid foods. Then I was really sick for 4 weeks where I couldn't eat anything but broth.....since then, it's like starting over with building back up to tolerating real food again.

I am 13 weeks out ~ and forthe first time was able to eat some chicken...I stick to liquids as much as possible as I feel like I cant get down any meats ~ ...soft cheeses and yogurts are ok ~ BUT I was wondering if anyone else noticed a difference in eating if you are STANDING as opposed to sitting ~ I seem to tolerate food so much better if I am standing??? Just thought I would ask (Trina, Van) if maybe this would make any difference for you getting food down???
