Belly Button Issues
Hello All,
I havent posted in quite a while - however things are good - had my 1 year anniversary back in October, below goal weight and still slowly losing. I cant believe that I have taken up running as a hobby (i couldnt walk up the stairs a year and half ago without being out of breath) - I have run a few 5K races and am actually decent at it.
Now to my question - i have started to have some slight discharge (foul smelling, I think possibly bloody) from my belly button - not much in volume - it usually scabs up in the belly button itself. I didnt think they actually went in through it during surgery - because there is a scar right above it. I searched the archives and saw 1 post where it said someone had a similar situation and it was a remaining stitch from surgery.
I need to get in and see my surgeon, but am out of the country currently and was wondering if anyone else had experienced something similar.
Thanks

You may have developed a yeast infection in your belly button. Sounds like the common symptoms. Maybe try some over-the-counter cream for yeast. It's worth a try until you get can back to your dr. Good luck!

I talked about my stitch before and occasionally get a yucky belly button. I am not sure why, but I think its from moisture (ie: sweat, baths etc). So Trina's comments about yeast infection might be true...men don't often get those!
I clean mine out with a q-tip with rubbing alcohol and if its really yucky (smelly) then I use bacroban or another cream similar and it goes away.
What a topic eh!

When I had a umbillical hernia (years ago) I used to bleed out of my belly button now and then. I used hydrogen peroxide and anti-biotic ointment and like Lisa, it would go away. Good luck!

Before my surgery I would get this and still sometimes do. My PCP said it was a fungal infection caused by moisture and bacteria. Every morning after my shower, I slap a little baby powder in there. I used Gold Bond medicated powder and haven't had a problem since.

All,
Thanks for the replies - the yeast/fungal infection would make sense. When I run on the treadmill I wear one of those compression type shirts to keep my pannus from flapping too much and when I am done I am usually drenched. I will try and find something here (Budapest, Hungary - wish I could read the labels) hopefully rubbing alcohol isnt too hard to find.
Thanks again - I dont know what I would do without this website. I dont post much, but stop by at least once a day to see what's new. Its weird but I feel like I almost know a lot of you (hopefully that isnt creepy-i dont mean it that way)
Anyhow - Thanks Again

OOOOOOOOUUUUUUCHIE! Dont think I would put rubbing alcohol on a yeast infection!!!! Not one that is broken open and bleeding. GGGGEEEZZZZZ, we'll hear you scream all the way back in the US! LOL That is to keep it from getting the way it is now as prevention I would think. I would try the cream. ALOT more soothing and will clear it up.
