Default PS Oct 16 2006 - HELP

Hey everyone..yes, its been a LONG time since I have posted but am coming back because you all understand what we all go through each day. I had my GB Oct 10, 2005 so its been almost a year. I was at 133 but I am GAINING weight and now am at 137!! I havent changed my eating habits but find that since "quitting smoking" I am eating more often which really bites. My PS said that I have to quit smoking one month prior to surgery and I am finding that really hard. I am down to three weeks prior and have had at least a couple of drags every day. Today is the worst because its the 3rd anniversary of my moms death and her b-day was just last week. I am working out like a mad woman to try to get this weight off but find that its not working either. I am so frustrated with the weight gain, not smoking but cheating and eating more. It all just doesnt fit right. Please help. Has anyone else had to do this? Is anyone else gaining weight? **sigh** any suggestions you can offer would be great. Thank you..

Lynne

Default Hey there

It has been awhile since you have been here and glad to see you back. As for smoking, I never smoked, but heard that it is very important not to before your PS surgery. You probably will gain weight as most do when they quit smoking, but on the other side of all of this, you may lose weight after your PS. I know that I have put on weight..but was too thin anyway..and it is super easy. I struggled at first because I didn't know how to put it on...now I know and I see how to get it off. Go back to protein first and kick your body back into the pouch rules and plan your day. I have to plan what I eat even if it means I plan while I am away from home. I know exactly where I can and can not eat. When I am out with my family, I insist on eating somewhere where there is steak or protein or I just wait or eat string cheese to fill my pouch and hold me over.

Did you try chewing gum...I know you probably already do that. I also get sugar free licorice because it is rock hard and I have to chew chew chew and it keeps my mouth busy.

I hope you get some good advice and best of luck on your upcomming surgery. Good to see you back.
Dale
