Default Need Help from the Oldsters!

Ok...I'm majorly bummed (and pissed). I know I'm not supposed to look at others' numbers, but I can't help it. Whyyyyyyyyyyyyy can I not lose any more weight? I got down to 171 one time....and now I'm floating right at the 180 mark. I'm 5'7" or so, so why in the world can't I drop anymore? I don't sneak sugar and garbage like that. I do eat peanut butter crackers alot because eating very dense protein (like steak) doesn't sit well. I can eat pasta, veggies, fruit....but the rest of the fat won't budge. I'm wearing size 10 and 12. My sister tells me that maybe my body is where it wants to be. Am I destined to going back to protein shakes and jello? I desperately need some words of wisdom!!!!

Default I know I'm not quite an oldster

Tab,

You can take it or leave it--but in my scads of research before I had the surgery, one of the things that really stuck with me was a surgeon's comment that "if they eat peanut butter crackers all the time, they can kiss the weight loss goodbye," or something to that effect.

And sure enough, for me, peanut butter crackers are the only indulgence that I genuinely can't keep in the house. Any other carb-monster snack I can pretty much pass by without a second thought. I'm NOT saying this is the only reason you can't lose back down to 171, but you might try giving them up for a week or three and just see what happens.

Oh - and I'm only at 11 months out, so I don't qualify as long-term post-op.... Free advice is often worth what you pay for it...

Well, I have been thinking about this and don't know the answer for you. I am thinking that you might be one of those people who have a lot of lean muscle and your bones might be denser than others. I know that a lot of people tell me I look like I weigh 90 pounds. Even when I was 240, everyone said no way....well I found that my bones are very dense in comparison to others. Do you feel ok where you are with your current weight? Atyour height, I would think that you look fabulous..dunno. Did you have PS or do you have a lot of loose skin? I just am not sure, but do know that you can't starve yourself to get to goal. I had to kick up my protein intake and calorie intake for awhile and then go back to basics to kick start my metabolism and trick my body.

I hope someone here can help you. I see by your avatar that you look wonderful. Smile...you have come a long way and have done so good.

Thank you so much for your replies. I haven't had any plastic surgery yet; not sure if I am or not. I've increased my water intake and upped the protein (and laid off the crackers) and I've dropped a couple of pounds. I'm sure I have at least 15+ lbs. of skin throughout my body. I've also had an epiphany, although I haven't seen any difference in how my clothes fit....I've also laid off the salt, so I very well could have been retaining water (like the Hoover Dam). I swear, it really sux having to watch what you eat forever. It would have been nice to have been born "naturally thin."

I've had my surgery for just about 5 years now...I had the same issues, started out at 300, got down to 180, size 10-12...I looked really good, but I hated the number that kept showing up on the scale...when I first consulted with my doc he asked me about my acpectations, I told him 12 would be fine with me, I didn't have to be stick skinny, but wanted to feel good, look good, and be able to shop where ever I wanted to without having to be in the plus side of the store or go to speciality stores....so I did reach my goal, just never thought that i'd still weigh 180lbs...told my doc that I wanted to be 160, and he said in all honesty, that he didn't know where i'd loose it from, I had firming up to do, so gaining muscle would only add to the number on the scale. I think everyones body is different, my lowest weight after surgery was 170...but that was because I was sick, (unrelated to surgery)so it normally hung around the 180lb mark....of course this was 5 years ago now....through the years I have gained back some weight....accepting it...I now just found out I have to have gall bladder surgery, consult with surgon next week. I thought while they are in there, why not tweek my tummy up and resize it....I have been getting discouraged lately...so I have been doing research online about if it's even possible...and what have I found???......5 years ago when I had my surgery done....I never had the education given to me that is out here today, i'm simply amazed!!!!!!!!.....I was never told about all the ways to "use my tool"....all I was told was eat slow, chew good...don't over eat....that is the education I was given....now that i've learned all these little helpful tid bits, I plan on utilizing them and doing it all on my own, without another surgery....now that I have a "tool" and always will, i'm really excited to change my old habbits....I've been doing sooooo many things wrong through the years, it will be a hard habit to break, but i'm determined to fit back into my old clothes!!!! It never even dawned on my to research what I could change...as dumb as it sounds!!!....i'm so glad I took the time....was looking for the easy way out, and found out I already have a helping hand, just don't utilize the gift of it!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tabitha, Tabitha, Tabitha

Do not be discouraged. Remember the weight that you were at in the beginning, and look at you now. Do you know how many people in this world would love to be at your current weight?

There will be days where you will level out. I'm only two months out, and I've seen several days where I lost nothing. NOTHING. Give your body a chance to catch up and get ready to lose more weight. It's an adjustment. It's going to take more time to lose the weight, than it was to put it on.

Be gentle on yourself!

Default still losing

I think the protein shakes make me lose. It seems when I'm drinking at least two a day I lose more weight. I've heard others say the same. Don't know.
I had my surger July 5, 2005. I've been losing a steady 3 lbs a month since my 6 month mark. I don't exercise regularly. My biggest complication has been fatigue and constipation. I'm totally exhausted after teaching school all day. Not good for much else. Hubby has to wait till Saturday every week. Anyway...if you can stomach it, try adding the protein shakes back in and see if it helps.
