Question 5 years post-op & FINALLY Pregnant !

After 6 years of trying to coceive, we finally did it!! My question is: Since I do have quite severe malabsorption issues, I do take B-12 shots monthly and folic acid daily; SHOULD I DOUBLE-UP on the Folic and Materna pills???
Please help !! ASAP, as no one seems to know (lol), ironic no?? Thank you !
P.S: my total maintained weight loss after 5 years is 135 lbs.

I has GBS in 2004 and I just had a baby in April. NO you don't need to double up on anything as the pre-natal's have enough. The one however you might want to take is iron pills...slow fe is a great brand to take. Hope this helps.

First of all, welcome to the forum....and second...what a great success. 5 years out and maintaining is just awesome. You are very inspirational to many here.

As for the pregnancy, Tracie would be a great person to help you out as Pam recommended.

Sandi, my podmate is an OB/gyn RN and she can offer some professional advice to you as well.

I would also hope that your OB doc might be familiar with gbs and pregnancy? I have severe malabsorption as well...the only thing that stays with me is B-12. I usually have to double up to maintain normal levels, but I would be careful with the Folic Acid...not sure about that one. Maybe Dr. Dyann here can help? I know someone will have a professional answer for you.

best wishes and congrats!!

Also, Denise....bypassingme is her user name...is pregnant. She might be able to help you out, too.

Wow, well first off big Congrats and welcome aboard. Sweety make you an OB appointment as soon as possible and get all your needed questions answered. Don't double up on anything. To much of certain vitamins can be dangerous. I am 7 months pregnant so it is nice to have another stapler sharing the joy of having a bundle of joy. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

I can't help much, I'm only about 7 weeks post-op and never had a baby. I just wanted to say Congrat's on the baby and the amazing weight loss!!

Congrats! I am 2 years post op and am now 10weeks pregnant, and is nice to know there are others out there. How far along are you? You are right the ob doctor does not seem to have a lot of answers for those of us that have had bypass. Is this your first? My due date is March 10th.
