Talking 4 years post op, but haven't reached my goal

Hello,
This is my second time around on this forum. Reading everyone's stuff is so interesting. Funny, other people would think we were talking foreign languages not understanding what we are all going through. My story is a little tuff. I got pregnant 7 months post op only 70 lbs. down which should have been 135 lbs., so obviously that delayed my goal. I had no support what so ever, affraid of the whole insurance issue & finding out I was pregnant, I ALMOST had an abortion because of it. I could not go throught with it. Then I found out it was twins & I almost fainted. Then, I had no support from my surgery team or group because of insurance failing to pay my surgery. Now I'm stuck with the bill and bad credit & no support group. I hope I can get some help & more insight from you guys. It seems so awesome out there how much people in our shoes care about each other. Anyhow, after I had my TWINS in Augus 03' , I lost a lot more weight. But, as I mentioned, now 4 years post op, I am stuck. At about 172, I am happy, but I still feel tired, (probablly has to do with having 4 kids!) and I'm trying to get down a little more. Any suggestions? I'd like to atleast get down to 150, to where maybe that would give me a little more energy. Do you think? I don't know. Any suggestions, I would so much appreciate it.

You don't mention your starting weight or your height...but often the last 10-20 lbs is weight from loose skin. All the dieting and exerciseing in the world doesn't get rid of skin weight....when you're stretched out to fit two people, it doesn't go away without surgery. It's the inches lost and the improved health that's important. Are you local? There are some home support groups that meet monthly that can help you out. Several other ladies here have gotten pregnant early psot-op and they can give you some great support.

It sure doesn't sound like your program offerred much info or support......that's really a shame. This is a hard surgery that really brings out a lot of our issues. You did great doing as well as you have alone. But this is an awesome group that can help you achieve what you really want. It's great that you are reading through posts to get info......a lot can be gained quickly that way. Congrats on the weight you've lost and on the twins.....even if it is a bit delayed. Stick around.

I got pregnant around 6 months post-op and kind of felt some distance in some people I was cool with during my journey. You do kind of feel like you are out of the box now. I hope you will feel more then Welcomed here. Everybody needs support and you seem like you have been through a lot in your 4 year period. You have been so blessed. How much weight have you lost all together? I personally think you have done great in your journey. Have you started up your protein? I think most of what you are hangin onto is skin and you shouldn't stress to much about the 20 pounds. I hope to see you around the forum and here more updates on how you are doing. Welcome to the family.

Thank you all for your encouraging words. I am in Southern California. This is the easiest support group I could get. A little stressed right now. My second son just started Kindergarden & he isn't adjusting too well, so I haven't been sleeping for the past few nights. Thanks to all of you whom responded. I have been given advise as to take more protein, which I really haven't been. And I understand that is suppose to help you lose more, right? Lower the carbs, raise the protein? I haven't been doing much of watching what I eat. Not good. I will keep on checking in with you guys to get more advise. You are all appreciated.

I never made 'goal" either. I think I look great, I know I feel great. My surgeons goal was 141, I made it to 165. i cant imagine losing another 20. But if ya met me you wouldnt know I had a 75% success rate vs 100%, I think alot of it has to do with attitude, and accepting that we, especially us moms are going to be supermodels. Im just me, and Im sure you look great also, dont concerned with the numbers, what was your goal?

Thanks for the encouragement. Sounds like you did great. But my gosh! You are 5'11"? That is tall! You must look great. I'm not saying I don't feel or look good. Of course, comparing to before, where I was 290 & now I am 174, that is a great difference. I am 5'7 1/2" by the way. My goal ultimately was 140. My doctor didn't set my goal. I don't even remember him giving me a # to shoot for. Not to mention I never got any support from my doctor or anyone else from my group for that matter. I tried several times contacting a young lady that had the surgery the same day as I did, but she never responded. And because of all of the insurance problems I had, I never spoke to anyone at the surgery center nor my doctors office ever again. I think honestly that has a lot to do with the way I feel. I feel like I have no closure to my fitness. I am trying, just recently, to start excersing more. But it is so hard with 4 kids. My twin almost 3 year olds, always like to hang on me when I'm doing my dvds, or if I'm on my elliptical machine, they are hanging on the pedals. My husband tries keeping them busy, but one always gets away. Anyhow, that is why I looked for support from this site. I am so glad to see how much response I have gotten so far. You guys are like angels. I haven't met any of you yet, but just the words of encouragement I get from everyone here is amazing. Thank you all.

Hi there

140lbs seems pretty low for your height. I am 5'7 and to get me to 'normal' BMI my goal weight was 155lbs. I am now 147lbs and don't look as good as I did with a few more pounds on my bones.

I wouldn't stress too much about it - worry more about being healthy and feeling comfortable in your clothes rather than what the scales say.

I am not out as far as you, but I can say that you still have your tool. Go back to the basics, document what you are eating and look at making small changes. I know 150 might be the weight you want to be, but maybe your body has decided to stay in the 170's.....

Get in lots of good fluids, good protein, veggies and fruit and cut back on the complex carbs for a while and see what happens. For me, I know that I need to keep to 3 good meals and a snack, anymore and I find myself snacking.

I believe 75% of excess body weight is considered a successful RNY surgery. How many actually get to 100% of excess body weight. I would be willing to bet it is very few. Congratulations on the blessings of your twins. That along with your weight loss - IS AWESOME!
