I had my Lapband removed two weeks after it was in - emergency surgery due to a perforated esophagus. I spent a month in the hospital (ICU, isolation, NPO, etc). I was one of the ones that LapBand didn't agree with.
So two months later I decided to go for the RNY *another Lapband was not an option* and began that journey. Since I had to have an open to have the LapBand removed, because of scar tissue and such, I had an open RNY. I am actually glad to have had the RNY over the Lapband, it worked better for me.
On the same day of my banding, my group buddy, Phil, had his Lapband inserted and he is down over 100 pounds now with absolutely no problems with his band. So it works for some and not for others, and then, not getting it tight enough seems to be a huge problem.
