Hi Godblessedme,

I'm doing fine now that the band is removed and my head is on straight! By the way you look great and hope you're doing well, brandy!

Default Taken Out?

Hi Brandy,
Why are you wanting it taken out? So you mean that you have to have a reason to get it taken out other than you just don't want it anymore? Hmm...that puts a whole new spin on things. Since I don't have one yet, I want to hear all the bad stuff first...thanks for sharing. Barbara

Barbara,

I had mine removed last October and am in the process of revising now to RNY. I'm hoping it will be successful. My daughter had the RNY last May and has done really well. I really need the malabsorption that RNY offers. I also suffered with acid reflux with the band and it always seemed too tight and I couldn't eat the healthier choices and for some reason the "bad foods" go right through the band.

It's a big decision to make and I'm still waiting on approval to have my revision. I'm not afraid to have the RNY like I was before. I have a choice to live as overweight as I am now or to have RNY and lose a good portion of it so to me at my age, 49 and my comorbs, many it's worth it. Good luck in making your decision. Read as much as you can. Each surgery has it's failures and successes. It can be difficult to pin point the right one for you. But by working with your surgeon and reading and going on these forums it will definitely help with your decision take care!

Question Eek!

Hi Brandi -- Since I'm new to this whole situation (banding scheduled for 6/5/09) I've wanted to ask when you got the band and how long you had it on. Did you lose any weight? I've been on a diet for a few months and even though it's slow it's still moving alittle (when I don't cheat) My biggest fear is that when they put the band on it will be too tight. I want the band to do its job but I also want to be involved at what I'm still doing. I love low carb which seems to be the diet of choice. But if I can't eat that 1 carb grainy bread I'll just die!

Hi Patty cake,

Sorry if my typing is bad but my daughter's bird bit my finger!!

Anyway, the first thing I would tell you is to discuss all your fears with your surgeon. He/she should be able to respond to your concerns. I am only one person out of many who has had issues with the band.

I believe as long as your band is not too tight you should eventually be able to eat bread, but I was not able to. But some are. Toasting it would make it easier.

The band is a restriction only device and it's restriction can fluctuate with people so that is something you would want to discuss with your surgeon.

I am almost 50 and have type 2 diabetes along with many other issues which make it difficult for me and probably just wasn't the right choice from the beginning. I had it for 14 months and tried but I really needed that malabsorption that the gastric bypass has and am having 6/11. Prior to my surgery we are required to go on a liquid protein diet shake diet for 4 weeks which helps you lose quicker but not necessarily the best test for follow up.

Anyway ask more questions of other bandsters possibly through lapbandtalk.com as you'll get more band advice there. Good luck and sorry I couldn't be more helpful Nancy.

Hi Nancy, I'm not sure if you remember me from lapbandtalk.com. I'm starting the process of having my band removed for a great many reasons as you had. I'm also considering the RNY as a replacement. I will refuse to get another band.

I notice you mentioned your were revised in June. How are you doing?
