Question Am I getting enough nutrition??

Ok, now I am 3 days post-op from LB. I am just now getting an appetite for flavor. I have only been able to do a little water, chicken/beef bouillion, tea w/sugar substitue, apple juice and sf juice the past couple of days in baby sips. I'm on a liquid diet for 2 weeks, which we all know, and I started taking 8 oz's of protein yesterday (4 oz in the a.m. and 4 in the p.m.). I bought a protien (whey/soy) powder that is Kroger brand and 25 g per serving. I know how important it is to get this in. Today, I made some homemade potato soup for my guys and did "eat" some of the soup (liquified, no potatoes or anything) to get some flavor and substance in me b/c I feel weak and dizzy. How much do I eat/drink? What other suggestions can I get for liquids? What about soups in the blender that are liquified? Is this too soon? They did not give me alot of direction in way of food, just "anything" that is capable through a straw. I am overwhelmed. Am I doing this right? The daily vitamins are HUGE and I am afraid to take them. What about flintstones for kids? Would those work? AHHHHH! See? LOL!

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I am 14 days post-op from GBS. I have been eating a lot of sf pudding, sf jello, scrambled eggs, and yogurt. As for drinks, I drink water with propel, or crystal light in it. I was told to take Flintstones, but there are many here on the board that will tell you otherwise. I have been taking them for now until I go back to my doctor this Thursday. I will then talk to my doctor to make sure I am getting all the things I need out of a vitamin. My hospital sent me home with samples of the different bariatric vitamins. I am leaning towards purchasing Celebrate vitamins.

Flintstones for kids will definitely NOT work. See this thread for a comparison of different vitamins. Flintstones vs. Bariatric Vitamins. Now, I know a lot more about nutrition after a gastric bypass than I do about nutrition after a lap band. With the lap band, you don't have the malabsorption issues you have with gastric bypass. But I think vitamins are still pretty important. At the very least you need adult vitamins. Adults have different nutritional needs than kids, which is why kids vitamins won't work. Really, what I recommend is bariatric vitamins. I use Celebrate. If you go to their website, you can email them and they will send you free samples so you can see if you like them. Bariatric Vitamins | Celebrate Bariatric Supplements | Bariatric Surgery & Nutrition. But with lap band, a regular adult multivitamin might be sufficient. I am not sure about that, though. Maybe someone else can come along shortly and advise you.

All doctors have different meal plans. I really recommend you call your doctor tomorrow and ask about what you should be eating and how much. I'm concerned that the doctor didn't go over that with you before your surgery. I had to go to a class at the surgeon's office where it was covered, then they went over it with me again before I was discharged from the hospital. Do you have a dietician? That would be a good person to call, too. If you don't have one, you need to get one, ASAP.

I don't know if benderized soups would be acceptible to your doctor or not. I was allowed cream soups as soon as I came home from the hospital. But some docs do not allow them that early. You need to ask your doctor. Call him first thing in the morning.

You said your protein has 25 grams per serving. Are you using just one serving per day? You really need more than that. 25 grams per serving is a good amount of protein in a supplement, you just need more than one serving per day, is what I mean.

Holly, thanks so much for the advice. I am going to also check into the Celebrate Vitamins. I am seeing alot of posts on here mentioning them. And, CONGRATS, on your surgery!!! You go girl!! I fully understand that it is a life-changing decision, but a positive one. Keep me posted on your progress!

Kelly, I am on that website now (Celebrate Vitamins) and will try some of those. I got to looking back at my paperwork and I was referred to the Lapband.com site and got to looking at it and it is telling me what to do. I think I am just overwhelmed. I mean, this is like a 1 1/2 year process and my dietician visit was last March. I then got an approval, which was NOT expected, as much as I had hoped, and then next thing I knew, I was scheduled for surgery. It just happened so quickly, even though it took a long time for approval. Do you know what I mean? I know it sounds silly, but it seemed to go fast once the ins. comp said yes. I like that lapband site for support too, b/c it has you set goals and write letters to yourself for support. Of course, i REALLY like this site b/c of people like you and Holly and others that I can TALK to and get to know.

Thanks for helping me along my journey!

Try Celebrate. Most people really like them. But you can get free samples if you want to taste them before you buy. They have excellent customer service, too, which is part of why we all like them so much.

I'm glad the lapband site is helpful. I know it can all be overwhelming. It seems kind of silly that they didn't have you see the dietician again closer to your surgery. I saw mine right before the surgery and I saw her in the hospital the day after my surgery. I had seen her earlier, too, but it was helpful to go over things again closer to the actual time.
