tolerances for bandsters
I'm a bandster - 15 months in.
No, we don't dump, but we have difference tolerance issues. Anything too fibrous or gummy can be a problem. Getting gas is far more painful after banding too (since it's harder to burp it out), so gas-causing food is something I really avoid.
For me, overcooked, stringy or gristley meats are really torturous so I stay away from chicken breast, albacore tuna (fattier tuna is okay). Dark meat chicken without the skin is fine.
Anything with carbs that gum up in a ball really kills me (gnocchi were a nightmare, as are biscuits and any soft bread)
really scratchy hard granola isn't a happy food anymore either, nor are corn chips.
most recently, I had to give up scrambled eggs, which used to be just fine, but yesterday I got stuck badly enough to spit up and then had a nasty bout of hiccups in the afternoon because my band was still cranky. Pretty much any other way of having eggs works just fine though (not sure why scrambling is an issue, but it is).
If I stick with foods that I know work (basically sticking with the clinic's recommended list), and if I keep portions under control, I'm just fine. In the end, it's all worth it!
