Hi Karen
I'm not sure if you have had the band or the bypass. If it's the band then I don't think sugar has an effect (but obviously still not good for you!).
If you've had the bypass then sugar is a big no no. For most people it causes 'dumping' - palpitations, sweats, crippling stomach pains and lots of other things. I have to limit myself to 5-7 grams of sugar at any one time and I'm ok but everyone is different.

Nuts
So far some almonds are all I have tried. Anything doughy makes me ill. I find I can eat sugar (chocolate) IF i eat it with a meal, otherwise I'm on the toilet endlessly.
I'd love to eat popcorn, I just don't know if my body is ready for that much fiber.

I'm way past 6 months out...LOL!....but I can eat any of those things...as long as it's not a LOT! I can't snarf up the bread, fresh baked like I used to, so I have learned limits...like a few bites. All the rest, I CAN eat and do if I feel like it.
I can't seem to handle anything in large quantity...meaning anything more than 1/4 c. total. Beyond that, I will get ill. I can even handle most sugars, and I don't dump often because I can't get enough in to hurt me. THAT said, I have also found that I CAN and HAVE been able to gain weight. Not becuase of what I was eating...but because I was drinking cappachino's from my quickie mart 2x a day....THose puppies were so loaded with calories and fat, that I was literally drinking a big Mac and a cheeseburger a day!!!! BAD, BAD, BAD!!!! Once I stopped doing that...the weight went back to normal!!

I know I'm not in the post-op time frame you were looking for (I'm a little over 2 months post-op) but wanted to say that I can definitely handle popcorn just fine. In fact, it's one of my obsessions lately, lol. I had the RNY in March. I just can't say have it more than once in a day or it's a little too much roughage for the system and I'm in the bathroom. At the present moment pasta doesn't sit too well but I think I just need a little more time before I experiment with that again. I would be curious to see how twizzlers go in the future as they were a huge favorite pre-op but in a way I'd rather not try that because I don't want to fall into bad habits if I tolerate it.

I, like Zen am way past 6 months. To be honest with you I really can't remember when I tried any of the foods listed on your list. I can tell you this, twizzlers, 1 or 2, any more than that at one setting makes me sick.
They make little mini bags of popcorn, although I don't eat it very often it's nice to have a small bag. If I pop a regular bag I want to eat the whole thing. Lately the artificial butter flavoring smells and tastes awful to me. I'd rather have it the old fashioned way (poppping in a pan on the stove) I also have a popper for the microwave. It's pretty good, but I've been out of the little popping cups so I haven't made any in quite some time.
I have always had a slight allergy to nuts, cashews, sesame seeds and poppy seeds inparticular, but all in all nuts in general give me a lot of gas and abdominal pain.
I don't eat rasins straight out of the box, but I do like them in things like rice pudding and oatmeal rasin cookies. Alas, any more than one oatmeal cookie does me in and like the Lays comercial (who can eat just one?) so I refrain from making them except for around the holidays.
I agree with others, if you're going to try something new, try a very, very small amount, trust me, if you dump, you will learn where your limits are.
Things like icecream, I can do the top of a baby soft serve (my husband usually has to eat from the top of the cone down) That really hurts his feelings too! LOL. As far as regular icecream from a carton, I can usually tolerate between a 1/4 to a 1/2 cup of vanilla, chocolate or butterpeacan. All the others like praline peacan, moose tracks etc. that have all that extra "stuff" added, I can't tolerate very well. I'm not sure but I think it's just way too much raw sugar.
All in all, I think I'd rather have my strawberry yogurt over a sliced banana. My favorite snack! I buy the one that is around 60 calories and has added calcium etc. I think it's call light and fit. I've been experimenting a little after reading all the posts about smoothies. With the couple smoothies I've made, I can pretend I'm eatting icecream. Not too bad.
The only thing I can say is take it slow, and don't push to try too much new stuff too soon. Best wishes.
Sharon

Foods that bother me
I have had my lapbad for 8 1/2 months, and the food that bothers me the most is chicken. I can eat it as long as it is in little bites. Even then, it still has a "binding" affect.
I can tolerate nuts and popcorn. Breads and rice are sometimes a problem because of the "gooey" nature they have when chewed.
