Hi,
I'm Sandra from Spring Hill. Worked as RN at Olathe clinics. Know Dr Opie's name, but have never met him. Had my surgery at Shawnee Mission Med Center. Had my surgery 9/02...big mistake for me.
How are you doing, and how is Dr Opie as follow-up is concerned?

Just saying hey!
I used to live in Protection and also in Ashland, KS. I moved away from there 2 yrs ago. I used to travel to Wichita often to the VA Hospital there. Sometimes I miss Kansas. I see that Protection got hit by a tornado the other night.

Wow, Nevada. A lot different from KS! We've had a lot of tornadoes and bad storms lately. Par for this time of the year!

Hi rnmom. Yep, always exciting weather in Kansas. I really miss the thunderstroms. My dad was born and raised in Picher, OK, the town that got blown off the map a few weeks ago. I used to have to drive thru Greensburg on my way to Wichita. Have you seen the Discovery Channel tv show about the rebuilding of Greensburg? Pretty neat.

I've not been to any of those towns, but they are on the news a lot. My dtr works for the Fox station in Oklahoma City as photojournalist, so she's covered picher. Tornadoes are scary stuff! We had one young man die at Pomona Lake this weekend from lightning stike. My oldest dtr and her family were camping out there at the time. They packed up camp and left!

Sorry surgery wasn't your answer. Are you okay now?
Dr. Opie is great. I get all the support I need, reminders when I need to make appts., and he really listens. I'm very happy with him and my surgery.

Moving to KS
I can guarantee that Kansas is totally different than San Diego. People are a lot more laid back, a totally different species than in CA. People in CA are generally more health and environmentally conscience...those movements haven't hit here. There are seasons, the winters and summers can be brutal, but I've grown up in Ottawa area, so it's all I really know. Family is very important, so if you have a lot of family there, the pay-off would be worth it. If a big change is what you need, this would certainly be it! Is there a way you could take several weeks to a month off work so that you could visit long enough to know if it would fit into your lifestyle? I think people in the Midwest are the most friendly anywhere.
